2000- led the Saints to their only playoff win in franchise history, throwing four TD passes to defeat the defending champion Rams. Threw for over 1500 yards in only five starts, including a 441 yard game against the Broncos. Ran for 108 yards against the 49ers becoming the only QB in NFL history to have a 400 yard passing and 100 yard rushing game in the same season

2001- Threw for 3832 yards and ran for 358 more, totaling a franchise record 4190 total yards. Also threw for a franchise record tying 26 TD passes all this in just his first full year of starting. Was named a NFC Pro Bowl Alternate

2002- Broke his own franchise record for TD passes with 27, which led the NFC, and tied for the NFL lead in total TDs with 29. Threw for over 3500 yards and ran for over 250 more in leading the NFC's highest scoring offense

2003- Threw for over 3500 yards for the third consecutive season, and 24 TDs to only 8 INTs. His 88.8 passer rating was third in the NFC, and his 3:1 TD:INT ratio was tops in the NFC. Added almost 200 yards rushing, and two TDs, giving him three straight seasons with over 25 total TDs

2004- Became only the third QB in NFL history to have four straight seasons with over 3500 yards passing, and 25 total TDs (Favre, Manning) by throwing for over 3800 yards and throwing for 21 TDs plus four more rushing.

2005- Became the Saints all time leader in TD passes, throwing for 120 in just six seasons, breaking the record it took Archie Manning 11 seasons to establish. Left the Saints as the undisputed greatest player in franchise history.

ditto what z-dog said.

i'd have to say aaron brooks' best INDIVIDUAL season was probably 2002, and his best season was probably the year the team went the furthest - which would have been year 1.

Brooks was always great in the world of FF - he just made plays sometimes that made you go

:jawdrop:

but not in a good way. Like throwing the ball into the ground 3 yards in front of a wide-open player, or throwing the ball away whliebeing sacked and not throwing the ball past the LOS - or scrambling around without throwing the ball away after the pocket collapsed.

He really seemed to fall apart the last two years after Deuce was injured.

I like Brooks, and think he gets WAY too much blame for the Saints' problems over the years, but he was not the greatest player in franchise history. Not even close.

He probably forgot about Reggie Bush. Honest mistake.

Hold on, one minute. I was with Shotgun's post until the last one. This is a very sore subject with diehard Saints fans like me. When you say he's the greatest player in Saints history, I hope you mean fantasy-wise because the fact is, the 6 year, 36 million dollar deal given to him was bad for the Saints (I said this from the beginning) even though he did lead us to our first playoff win.

The fact is, Brooks was good to great before NFL teams figured out how to defend him. Then when they figured him out, they saw him for what he really is. A player with all the talent in the world who has very little heart, brains and leadership ability to allow this talent to shine on the field. Read the nola.com forum and you will see Saints fans still talking about how happy they are that Brooks is gone. The Raiders are really in for some long seasons with him at QB. Now fantasy might be a different story because Brooks does excel at picking up garbage yardage and scores and he is still capable of rifling some throws for TD's that not many people on this Earth can achieve. But he has no consistency anymore and his ability to read and outhink defenses is nonexistent. I had to get that off my chest.

Brooks didn't get worse. His team around him got worse. Deuce got worse/hurt. Stallworth is either hurt, slowed by hamstring problems, or can't catch with his dislocated finger. Horn is getting older. Brooks isn't supposed to come into his prime and play worse. All of Brooks problems can be coached. You can't coach the skills he has. The Saints have never had any kind of success at the QB position like they did with Brooks in their whole 40 year history. It took Brooks 80 some games to break Archie Manning's TD record it took over 130 games astablish.

But of course, people who know nothing about Brooks other than the backwards pass think he's a horrible QB. They think he's turnover prone and perrenial loser, which just isn't true.

You can say that about anyone except a diehard Saints fan like me. I've watched every Saints snap or listened to the rest on radio for the past 22 years. How many Saints games have you watched in entirety? Brooks didn't get worse. He never was any good. The first two-three seasons were a facade because he broke onto the scene and surprised everyone. He's got unheard of ability, but that makes me dislike him more because he never has put in the extra study time and has not devoted 100 percent effort into his job. Just look at him smiling onthe sidelines after throwing another intereption. I wish him the best in Oakland because he's fun to watch when he's on. Unfortunately, I don't think coaches can get anymore out of him than they have the past few seasons.

Is there any franchise in the NFL worse at producing QBs than New Orleans? Archie Manning would have been a star anywhere else in the league, but he was stuck in NO and sucked. Same can probably be said for Aaron Brooks, except Brooks didn't suck, he just couldn't play to his full potential. I know it's hard for a lifelong Saints fan to hear their whole entire franchise is a joke, and the mediocrity with Brooks should be looked at as the good years, but it's true.

If you're saying our franchise is a joke because of the owners we've had, then I agree. But you know what? There's always tomorrow. Who's your favorite team because maybe the joke of the NFL will beat your team this year. The past is the past, we got a promising new coach/coaches, a new QB and a faster Marshall Faulk coming out of college. Our offensive line, especially right tackle is our biggest weakness now. I got a few more days before the agony of baseball and more baseball is over. By July 20, it'll be 60 percent football on television and radio. The weak after that, it's all football. Thank you, God!

What is it going to say about a franchise when Drew Brees struggles and Aaron Brooks goes on to put up Pro Bowl numbers? What free agent would want to go there and kill their career?

Of course, if the Saints had a pro-level organization, complete with top-quality front-office, training personnel, and coaches, maybe Brooks would have behaved differently. Who can say? I lay a lot of blame on Haslett. They say the team never quit on him, which is great, but it doesn't look like they wre able to learn much from him either.

What would you consider Pro Bowl numbers? I know you're just trying to egg me on. But if i was standing next to you right now, I'd bet you lots of money that Brooks won't put up Pro Bowl-like numbers. Why are you so in love with the man so much? You still never told me how many games you've seen him play. Are you basing your opinion on fantasy numbers and never watched him in a game? If you read most of the major websites, you'll see their opinions are that the Raiders signing Brooks to be the starter was a bad move. In fact, Tom Jackson said yesterday that having Brooks and Moss on the same team has the potential to blow up in the Raiders face because of the attitudes of both players.

Pro Bowl numbers are the numbers Brooks put up in 2002 and 2003. I'll tell you this much, I've seen Brooks play a lot more than Tom Jackson, who is still a Bronco fan first, Raider/Chief hater second.

It seems like the easiest thing in football is to poop on Aaron Brooks, but I agree with you completely on this. Everytime Aaron Brooks would have one of his Brooksism moments, the camera would pan to Haslett who would have a dear in headlights look on his face. I have watched the Saints too much for my own good over the Haslett era as I invested heavily after their initial success. The truth of the matter is that the organization has been run with a laissez-faire attitude for the last five years. I don't know how many times I have seen horrible time management accross the board from the Saints, but one sticks out a couple of years ago against the Bears with 2 minutes left in the half, a first and 10 from the 20 and the Saints ended up running 3 plays and did not have time for a field goal to put points on the board. It wasn't even Brook's fault, as wide receivers stayed in bounds and running plays took the entire time off the clock. Finally the time ran out at the end of the half and the camera panned to Haslett only to show him casually walking off the field along with the rest of the team. Other situations such as players sleeping with other teamates wives, and in-fighting within the team that resolved nothing but passing blame, and there is no wonder why the team hasn't suceeded. The Saints have been complete opposite from the Patriots over the years, in that they have always drafted for talent and have negated to draft the best players for their team situation. As a result they have frequently finished around .500 on talent alone, and have not gotten over the hump due to their terrible team culture.

I think it was best for everyone to move on, however I would have liked to seen how Brooks would do with the offense if he had a top coach. So once again I think it is best for everyone that they moved on because I don't think they have a top coach in Payton.
