It has been a long time since both Superbowl teams from the previous season, made the playoffs the following year

I believe the following Superbowl teams did not make the playoffs the following season

XXXV: Giants

XXXVI: Rams

XXXVII: Raiders

XXXVIII: Panthers

XXXIX: Eagels

XL: Steelers

XLI: Bears

XLII: ?

I can't see how Pats miss the playoff so Giants by default even though I can't see them missing either, trend break?

Just look at the other competition in each of both teams' respective divsions. Can't see the Pats not winning the division. All the other teams suck badly.

NFC East is a coin flip but I could easily see the Giants at the bottom of that division next year. They got hot at the right time. It doesn't mean that they are going to bring it next year and in fact, I would think that the Cowboys are still the favorites to win that division. Skins and Eagles will also make the Giants' life miserable.

I disagree. I think Dallas is over-rated. T.O. has already started crying ... It's the begining of the end for Dallas. I will agree that T.O. and Randy Moss are the 2 most talented, athletic WRs in the league ... but they hafta TRY to be team players ... it's not in their heart. No heart ... and that's why the Giants didn't want either of these guys when they were available.

Eli's grown up a lot since Tiki's bashing early this year.

With how the Giants played up front (on both sides), I can't see them missing the playoffs next year. While Garcia/TB aren't a juggernaut, their defensive lines play in that 1st game was one the best performances I've ever witnessed.

IMO The defensive line should of been the MVP's of the playoffs for the Giants.

I agree. I don't think though that you can give it to any one player. Tuck maybe? Best game of his life. But I think that's what they did as a team ... Jacobs didn't need 100 yards, Eli didn't need 300 ... they came out there as a team ... and did what they do best, as a team ... which is put pressure on the QB, and stuff the run. Defense wins championships. And you can say ... "BUT IF" ... Samuel had intecepted that pass ... but he didn't. What about that pass to Toomer where Eli just overthrew him ... that mighta been the play of the game ... BUT IT WASN'T! THAT REALLY HAPPENED!So ... stop with the "If so and so had made such and such play" .... THEY DIDN'T ... so live with it.

My only concern would be if Strahan declines or retires. Osi, Tuck and the rest of the DL should be fine without him, but they'll lose some when the future HOFer leaves. Of course, Eli could revert to his regular season play, Dallas should be right up there, Washington and Philly could surprise next year. Odds are that it's the Giants who don't repeat.
