Aging superstars, underperforming youngsters and a massive payroll. Both teams have thus far been massive failures. Which failure is a bigger surprise? Which team has a better chance to turn things around and make the playoffs?

Tigers are underachieving more but play in a weaker division so they have a better chance of making the playoffs.

There is only going to be one playoff team from the Northeast in the AL this year and it will be Boston. I give the Rays a better shot at the wildcard than the Yankees right now. Even without ARod and Posada, their pitching blows.

Tigers clearly underachieving more. They were the cool pick to win the WS this year. Many people thought the Yanks wouldnt even make the playoffs and they have a better record than DET.

Obvious answer is Tigers, they are in it to win it this year. The same can't be said for the Yanks. If so, they would have gone balls to the wall to get Santana.

The Yankees are not a playoff team this year, jury is still out on the Tigers but I don't like what I see.

I agree that the Tigers are the bigger underachiever but I would say most people thought the Yanks would make the playoffs so let's not try and put a spin on this Mr Yankee while you are trying to make yourself feel better about that terrible team. Tigers are 4-1 vs the Yankees this year and haven't had much trouble with them lately with or without A-Rod. Also keep in mind the Yankees have a 210 million dollar payroll, 75 million more than the Mets and Tigers. At least you could have bought a starting pitcher with that extra money. :lmao:s

I would think anytime a team has a payroll over $200 million and a losing record, they would have to be considered the bigger disappointment.

Personally, I don't think either team has the pitching chops to get into it this year. The Yanks were counting on too much from Kennedy and Hughes and it killed them.
