Despite only being with Minnesota for two seasons, I really think Viking's fans appreciated Favre more than Green Bay fans.. I can't think of a more fun season than 2009 since the Vikes went 15-1 in 1998. The 2009 team IMO was even better than the 1998 team.

The guy was awesome, even at 40 years old his energy was off the charts. We love the guy, and even though we didnt win a SB with him(cheating Saints..), he will always have a special place in Vikings history, and I think more so than Packers.

What say you?

This is like asking who appreciates Joe Montana more, Chiefs fans or 49ers fans. Or asking whether Broncos fans appreciate Peyton Manning more than Colts fans do. I mean, I'm a Broncos fan who thinks Peyton Manning is the GOAT (and who thought that before he ever came to Denver), but I hold no illusions that he means more to me than he does to Colts fans.

Before Favre arrived in Green Bay, the Packers had made the playoffs once in 19 years. And that was during strike-shortened 1982, when 16 out of the league's 28 teams made the playoffs. He might have worn on their nerves a bit at the end with the constant retirement dance and eventually "defecting" to one of their biggest rivals, but he turned that team from a laughingstock into a champion. Any Packers fan over the age of 30 is going to know that and appreciate the hell out of Favre as a result.

I don't know what fans think, and don't really care, fans get things wrong and have clouded judgment in the 'heat of the moment'.

Favre meant a hell of a lot more to the Packer franchise than to Minnesota and it's not even close.

I disagree, I think Viking's fans appreciated Favre more in one season in 2009 than Packers did through Favre's entire tenure in Green Bay. I just know it. Favre even said it was his favorite group of guys, and the intensity and energy he brought to Minnesota was insane. He brought out the best of Vikings, and we will never forget it. Green Bay took him for granted IMO. We love the guy.

I know exactly what the OP means. As someone who lives in the DC area and attended Michael Jordan's last game I KNOW he meant much more to Bullets/Wizards fans than he ever did to the Bulls' fanbase.

The thing that warms my heart immensely as a Packer fan was how the season ended for the 2009 Vikes. You got to experience for a very short time the dizzying heights to which Favre could take you to only in one instant having all that sink to the bottom of the emotional abyss. It was truly an epic Favre moment.

That said, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Favre, a true affection for that incredible ride. And it will always be tainted just a little around the edges in the way he handled the end of his tenure as a Packer - typical Favre to the end, always the great thrill ride with that little bit of a sour spot to go with it.

If you think Vikes fans can truly appreciate that incredible sweet marred by that hint of bitter in the short time you had with him at the end of his career, you are sadly mistaken. We understand your transference given what you had to suffer through at QB, but there's just no way to match the amalgam of the experience that is over a decade and a half of watching him develop from pup to master of the universe to the vengeful vet near end of his career.

Watching Favre beat Green Bay as a Viking (TWICE) and looking at the horror and confusion of Packer fans as there once hero owns them (and loved doing it) in his best season ever was FANTASTIC!!!! Thank you Brett!!!! We apprectiate you! Would love to see us retire his number before Green Bay..

That Vikes fans only have such fond memories only goes to further proof that they do not truly have appreciation for the full experience that was Brett Favre.

I hope they retire his number in Minny too...just to show what a joke of a franchise they are.

Actually we do, he is a legend, in the same class as Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice, an NFL treasure no matter what team. He LOVES the game and we as Viking fans love that he was part of our franchise. More than Packer fans IMO. Thank you Brett!!!

Well he never missed a game with the Packers so maybe he was made of granite?

I can see where someone taking a short sited approach might feel this way but there is no doubt that Favre was a a god in Green Bay for many seasons. Favre just felt slighted because the Green Bay management made a decision that it was time to move on to Aaron Rodgers. No doubt that had to be a very difficult decision and was very risky but I think it turned out well. No doubt he was appreciated in Both Green Bay and Minnesota but I couldn't agree that he was more appreciated by Vikings fans.

We get that you think Vikings fans appreciated him more but you seem to be the only one keeping this thread going with your opinion. When were you named spokesperson for the Vikings fans? My true feeling would be that he was probably equally appreciated by both franchises but he was certainly appreciated longer in Green Bay.

Huh? And again, I disagree. If Im having a bad day, all I have to do is watch the Minneapolis Miracle on my iphone. Always cheers me up. :thanks: Brett!!!!

What a joke, Packers fans win this one.

(Ha. Nice throw, Brett.).
You guys won the coin toss.. Pure luck. Plus that PI on Leber is the biggest worst call of all time as the ball was 15 feet above anyone's head... Cheaters!
This is ridiculous. And sad.
There were some great Vikes fans down here for the NFCC game, they're not all like this.

The Packers play outdoors and with the Bears seem to maintain the idea of the old Black and Blue division. They are NFL classics. The Vikes seemed to leave all that behind when they left their old stadium.

What Favre did with the Packers was return a great franchise to glory and then sustained it. I also recently rewatched that 2nd SB loss by GB to Denver and the Packer defense let them down in that game.

Anyway this discussion feels like it's come from a time warp.

Do you appreciate your summer fling more than your wife?

I appreciated Favre more before he learned how to win in the dome.

The rivalry between John Randle and Favre was a great one and to think that Vikings fans did not appreciate a worthy opponent as tough as Favre was before he became a Viking?

I for one know that I did.

As far as the 2009 season it was like living in bizarro world. It was fun while it lasted. That was not the first time I have seen Favre throw interceptions in the playoffs. What about the game against the Rams in 2001? He threw 6 interceptions!!

Yeah I was rooting for the Packers against the Rams. But not surprised to see Favre doing Favre things.

As far as the loss to the Saints in 2009 Adrian Peterson kept putting the ball on the ground. It was a collective failure on their part. Oh well it was a fun ride.

You disagree that I don't know or care what fans think?

Or are you legitimately saying that Favre did more for the Vikings franchise in that one season than he did in all of his seasons at Green bay?

In either case...lol

Favre's first ballot, right?
Absolutely.

He will be wearing Packer Green on the way in too.
Just a bust and his stuff will list all years in the NFL. They don't really wear a hat like MLB.

Guessing that day he wears something pretty neutral and mentions his stops in NY and MN to be pretty diplomatic.

He will have the number retired and enshrined in the Packer HOF likely next year.

Change this to the Brett Favre 2009 appreciation thread. Magic season, probably my favorite

Favre and Warner both retired that year.

This is so played out. Dems the rules. No one cheated. If you can't handle losing then stop watching the game.
Bountygate isnt cheating? Um.. pretty sure it was found to be cheating.. Ask your eyeliner wearing coach and D coordinator and the NFL. And the OT rule at the time was such BS that it was changed the very next year. So ya, you got lucky and won the coin toss.. Whoopity doo...!

Yeah, the Vikings really dug themselves a hole early on from what I recall. The play that sticks in my mind more than the interception was the fumble at the goal line before the half. Interceptions happen, but that play should have been a gimme touchdown....

Ummmm....what was exactly proved? Nothing. We lost our coach for a year over speculation. And how long had the overtime been that way? It didn't change because of that game. NO still has the ring. Last I checked MN is 0 for 4.Honestly maybe Manny would have won if Peterson didn't fumble 3 times and Favre didn't throw 3 picks. I guess somehow that is cheating too.

1 ring? Just 1 NFL championship in franchise history? That's what you're puffing your chest about?

No wonder any you're picking on a Vikes' fan. What's next? A few shots at the Bills?

Yes, you're correct. I don't know how I could have possibly misinterpreted what you posted.

NO still has the ring. Last I checked MN is 0 for 4.
