Who are people giving up on now that will ultimately win championships (1 Viewer)

Los Gigantes

I will take a few stabs:

Andre Ellington - once he is fully healthy, with Iupati back, and an offense firing on all cyllinders, I think he will be a top 5-10 PPR back week in and week out,

Lamar Miller - Once Philbin gets fired, rational coaching will feed him the rock. He has not played badly, just not getting the touches.

Calvin Johson - Slow start, but something tells me that offense will start clicking soon, once they start using Abdullah properly.

DeMarco Murray. Seems like Chip got the message that RBs need to be involved to win games and Murray is the best horse in their stable.

Watkins. A horrible first game, a decent second, an early injury in the third and missing the fourth is not way to start a season. But he's the best playmaker they have and will be fed the ball when he returns.

Cooks. Not quite as sure what's happened to him and he might struggle a few more weeks, but he's too good to keep down if Brees is fully healthy.

Zach Ertz. He looks terrible thus far.

If Philly O starts clicking or J.Matthews gets injured or if Sanchez replaces Bradford.....bingo.

You're the only person this year I've heard actually convey confidence in this cat after he's stunk up the field 3 straight weeks.

He looks slow. He looks old. He looks done.

I dropped him in both my leagues.

If you can get Megatron I think it's a solid get. Read an article on BR last night stating that Stafford and the OLine are responsible for his perceived possession status. That being said it makes me nervous that Stafford is going to keep getting blown up and not take shots downfield. Usually CJ's 20+ yd attempts are in high 20's% and under Lombardi he was at 25% last year and at 20% this year. So it's not without risk but I think Detroit is using him foolishly and the shoe has to drop soon or that whole staff is getting can'd.

what does "giving up" mean, dropping?

"giving up on"

I don't know if people are giving up on him, but I can see CJ Anderson having a strong surge. Hillman has been playing well, but he's a change of pace guy. Kubiak loves his workhorses, and I can see him trying to get Anderson going.

That's exactly why I think he fits this topic. He was dropped in my short bench redrafts. I picked him up anywhere I had room or a wr need. I believe what I hear from Andre that he is still developing rhythm with Luck. And if he is as slow and old as people are saying, pretty soon teams will be shifting their focus more on Hilton and Moncrief and the door will open for Andre. I don't think he will become a top 10 WR or anything, but I could see a wr needy team benefitting from grabbing him off waivers and making a playoff run.

Bill Barnwell does a column every year for Grantland where he takes narratives from the previous season and tries to figure out who they might apply to this year. In that spirit, here are four candidates. Not saying any of these will repeat themselves, just that it's a useful way to anchor your predictions:

1. Aging QB who everyone writes off prematurely after a bad start.

  • 2014: Brady
  • 2015: Peyton
2. Rookie RB who will shine once he displaces the incumbent

  • 2014: Hill
  • 2015: Matt Jones
3. Injured rookie WR flying under the radar

  • 2014: OBJ (or MBryant*)
  • 2015: Perriman (or Parker)
4. Rookie WR who suddenly emerges as a WR1 after slow start

  • 2014: Matthews
  • 2015: Agholor
* Was Martavis injured at the beginning of last year? All I remember is that he didn't play for the first few weeks.

One more. Kind of cheating because people aren't "giving up" on him, but there are definitely still skeptics:

5. Out-of-nowhere RB1 whose early performances are being discounted

  • 2013: Knowshon
  • 2014: Forsett
  • 2015: DLewis

Think of it from a non-fantasy perspective: As a Texans fan, we needed WR help and we still let him go even being the original face of the franchise. The Texans call him what he is for the NFL now: a situational role player; but for fantasy purposes that should mean he's not worth owning.

quarterback - Brees - he will get healthy and Spiller is back so they will get on track

running back - Miller - schedule gets easier

wide receiver - Sammy Watkins - people are benching him and tape will get out on Taylor and defenses will adjust. When inexperienced quarterbacks starting getting frustrated they lean on their top receiver

tight end - Fleener - Allen can't stay healthy and Luck will get better play from himself and his oline. Luck and his receivers will start lighting up some defenses and when they adjust to the receivers he will start to find openings in the mid of the field for Fleener and it will be near the end of the fantasy season

defense - Rams - they have been dropped in so many leagues of mine, but the running game will get going and they will be on the field less and that line will start dominating.

Never trusted Miller.

Watkins is the answer here, although not many have completely "given up".

Demarco Murray is a nice bet too.

Quite unbelievably someone has dropped Mike Evans in one of my leagues. Instantly put a claim in, hopefully goes through tomorrow fingers crossed.
