Who are the best three current Head Coaches in the NFL (1 Viewer)

Short term based on THIS years teams............

McDaniels

Marvin Lewis

Sean Payton

Long term based on the last sveral years or whatever............

Belicheck

Mike Tomlin (he doesn't get enough credit)

Andy Reid (I'm giving him a mulligan on the Raiders game)

This thread made me notice that there are only 3 head coaches active in the NFL with super bowl rings. Its gotta be a long time since the number was that low. Had the Patriots beat the Giants, it would have just been 2.

I was confused at first but then realized you must mean head coaches who have won a superbowl as a head coach - there are probably at least 10 or more with rings.

McDaniels

Sean Payton

Reid

**Belichick does not get on this list until he can show that he can win without cheating.

Belichick

Tomlin

Reid

Payton

I want to put Fisher up there, but he's just top 10 IMHO

No love for Coughlin, eh? I wonder if the Giants recent slide has anything to do with that. Anyway, given the success he has had over the years plus his Super Bowl title has to put him in the top 3. Andy Reid would also be in my top 3. Belichick is obviously number one.

Tomlin has done a tremendous job in Pittsburgh, but I think he needs a few more years before being in the top 3.

Belicheck

Fisher

Coughlin

Reid misses because too often he forgets to run the ball and this Vick experiment is just mind-boggling.

I agree that Reid does have brain cramps at times with running the ball, but his track record speaks for itself. Putting him behind Jeff Fisher seems like madness to me, especially when you look at their playoff track records (10 playoff wins in 10 years for Reid; 5 playoff wins in 15 years for Fisher). And Reid's regular season record obliterates Fisher's, and that is despite always playing in the NFC East, which is almost always tough.

Washington anyone?

Because one of the teams having a bad year this year means the division isn't almost always tough, right? I mean, it being the only division where three of the four teams have five wins means nothing, right? And did you miss where I said "ALMOST always"?

With playoff record, you have to realize that Fisher lost to some powerhouses in the AFC, while Reid was beating much weaker competition in the NFC. Something to keep in mind when comparing the two.

Top three have to be the three who've won Super Bowls and maintained success.

I'm no fan of the Ravens but I think John Harbaugh has done a helluva job there. Brian Billick was an offensive genius and never developed a QB or offensive attack like Harbaugh has in two years. Credit him for hiring Cam Cameron, and putting young guys like Flacco, Ray Rice, etc. in position to be successful.

I want to put Tomlin in there but can't just yet. That Steelers team was stacked when it took it over. I'd like to see how he performs over the nest 2-3 years before placing him in the top 3.

You stated 16-0. And in fact, that year they were cheating. Its not even debatable.
Post-season down? They won 2 more games in the post-season. They were 16-0 post-cheating heading into the Super Bowl. Care to explain how he's failed to show he can win?Since week 2 of the 2007 season, the Pats are 32-9. Again, care to explain how he's failed to show he can win?

:tumbleweed: at the guys pretending Belichick isn't a great coach. I don't like the pats either but come on. The jealousy is thick.

I'll say

1.) Belichick

2.) Reid

3.) Fisher or Coughlin

I heard they cheated against Baltimore in 2007 and paid off the Defensive Coordinator to call a timeout when Brady got stuff on the QB sneak.

Why are you so willing to include a known CHEATER in the ranks of the best NFL head coaches.

A: because it would be stupid not toand B: he got caught doing something that is heavily rumored to happen all around the NFL

Probably because he's the best head coach in the league right now.

:bag: Oh, and I'm NOT a Pats fan whatsoever.

Neither am I ... not even close ... but give respect where respect is due ... the guy may be prickly as a cactus, as unperson-able as it gets (although being at the ESPYs when manning was winning the Player of the Year award and flashing all his rings was really funny), and got caught cheating ... but he is still the best in the biz

Are you guys really putting McDaniels on the list after 8 regular season games?
Seems very silly. Early indications are that McDaniels is a very good coach, but no way does he deserve to be in this conversation... at least not yet. Let's wait and see where he is in three years.

Love Ken Whisenhunt flying under the radar here. A Super Bowl in his 2nd year at the helm and he's actually still in the midst of structuring the roster and staff to fit his vision.

I think he's in the same boat as Tomlin. They have been extremely impressive so far, but it's a bit early to be rating them ahead of guys who have been successful for longer periods of time.
