Who are the players with positive "buzz" this year? (1 Viewer)

Faust

MVP
Last year players like Steve Smith kept receiving strong "buzz" heading into the season. Smith was consistently ranked in the low to mid teens for all WRs, yet finished as WR # 1

If you read information in the shark pool last year, you knew to target Steve Smith. I grabbed him cheap in my keeper auction league - $ 14 in a 200 cap.

Who are the players this year?

I will suggest two names and see what other players sharks suggest.

RB Laurence Maroney - has looked very good, plays for an above average team and just behind a RB on the wrong side of 30 who looks a step slower. In my keeper auction league this should hold his price down just enough to make him a great buy vs. Reggie Bush

TE Ben Watson - Ben's athletic prowess combined with a pedestrian looking WR corps should result in big numbers this year. A missing Branch will also lead to increased targets in this offense.

What other players are capturing serious "buzz" right now?

Players ranked in rounds 3-4 and lower, who could have breakout seasons based on the "buzz" I've been hearing:

Matt Jones

Greg Jennings

Musa Smith

Chris Simms

Frank Gore

Chris Chambers

Colts WRs

Terry Glenn

Reggie Brown

Jon Kitna

Todd Heap

FWP

Roy Williams

Good suggestions here. I agree with Roy Williams - I don't think that I have seen any negative "buzz" on him so far.

FWP is another great suggestion. If he can pick up some of the goal line looks that went previously to Bettis, then he is seriously flying under the radar in any of the semi serious leagues.

Very nice list - Other players that have had good buzz are: Ben Troupe, Eli Manning, K.Warner, Bush, & Scheffler.

Roy Williams has been injrued twice already in preseason..this time, its a groin problem..he's been a frangile like potato chip every year in his brief NFL career...too risky for me.

Do you mean buzz or hype? Buzz is when someone sees something and it starts to spread. If its buzz, then Fred Taylor has been talked about in a good way this offseason.

More buzz than hype. I see buzz as information reported & corroborated in several sources – and discussed in the shark pool with a strong majority agreeing on the positive prospects in the upcoming year for that player. I think of Steve Smith last year.Hype is more of a player being promoted purely on speculation with mixed information and the shark pool remaining skeptical on a player - Ron Dayne could be a good example of this earlier this year.

Hype v. buzz. Is this the new What is a sleeper definition argument?

We need the footballguys to gather at the pentagon table and officially decide on the meaning (at least in this world) of all the terms that are argued over.

We'll all finally know what a sleeper is. Buzz will be clearly defined and hype will have its propoer place.

I can't expect it now but in the offseason when things are quieter, take up the project.

For those of you in keeper or dynasty leagues -- Greg Jennings keeps looking good -- he always seems to be making plays

Very :goodposting: He looks like a nice pick in the later rounds of re-drafts also.
Greg Jennings has been going much higher than expected in my leagues (30-40 WR). I was high on him before the draft and still am, but I think he's getting a little over-hyped in some leagues.

I like him long-term, and I think the coaching staff likes him. But Favre sounds like a grumpy old man who refuses to learn the new offense or the names of the new WRs - I see him forcing the ball to Driver every down and ignoring the rest of the guys there.

Favre threw Jennings a pass for 89 yards for his only completion last week. I bet he knows his name now. I grabbed him at the 45WR spot. Maybe a reach, but this kid looks good to me and is getting "buzz" in GB for sure.
