Who are your top 12 going into 2006? (1 Viewer)

This is a bit of an off-shoot of the top 10 QB going into 06.

How should the first round of a 12 team redraft with standard fbg scoring (no ppr) work out in the end?

Throwing my list together a bit quickly so don't be too harsh if you don't like it. I would like to see a compliation of lists & discussion to help us all prepare for draft day!

Mine:

1. Shaun Alexander (how can he be #2?

2. Larry Johnson (COULD be #1, but more question marks for him than with SA)

3. Ladanian Tomlinson (a complete stud at #3 ... the Rivers thing worries me a bit)

4. Clinton Portis (pretty high on this guy, like most)

5. Rudi Johnson (i know there's not as much love for him, but he finished off so strong & is on a top offense - i see him with numbers like the EDGE of previous years)

6. Tiki Barber (old man who is still a stud - probly his last great year)

7. Steven Jackson

8. Lamont Jordan

9. Peyton Manning (numbers will increase again without edge)

10. Cadillac Williams (health & can he take the workload a concern)

11. Julius Jones (health & can he take the workload a concern)

12. Deshaun Foster (if and a big if he could remain healthy, i think he would end the year with better numbers than where he's going to be drafted)

I also like Ronnie Brown & Thomas Jones a lot, but I'm not sure how those situations are going to pan out with Ricky & Cedric hanging around ... If I knew these guys were going to get 80% playing time all season, I would fit them in the 9-12 range ...

Rudi - could see a huge dip in numbers from a) injury to Palmer, b) Chris Perry.Caddy in the top 10? thats a reach for sure.

Lamont Jordan..why all the love for Jordan? he avg'd just 3.8 yards per carry..70 catches is great, but he's not as good as advertised..you said no ppr right? then Jordan is a bust at a pedestrian 3.8 yards per carry..

Deshaun Foster - again, he doesn't belong on the list..doesn't belong in top 20 list for RBs, let alone a top 10 overall !!! puh-lease! lol..he's a never has been that never will be...clearly the starting RB in Carolina until the upcoming NFL draft begins, when Carolina watches someone like DeAngelo Williams,Larry Maroney, or Lendale White fall to their #1 pick..or they might just trade for Ricky W..

Steven Jackson - a lot of love on this board for him. he could be a great player in 2006..just my 2 cents, i think you see more of the same from him, i.e., barely 1000 yards, 6-8 tds in a P/T role splitting carries with Marshall Faulk. the head coach in St Lou LOVES to utilize the RBBC..he's great at it..and what better way to maximize the remaining tread on Faulk's tires, than to keep him fresh in a RBBC system...

Manning - numbers might actually DECREASE sans Edge..Manning had his great year in 2004..now he's back to being a sub-30 td QB...for value, you can take Brady later in the draft and get nearly identical stats...

no love for denver's RB? no love for Bush if he goes to Houston? he should thrive there in a Kubiak offense with chop blocks and zone blocking..you can put any RB in a Gary Kubiak offense and he'll perform..if Dayne can look THAT good in Denver, you get the point!

good list..just my opinion, Jackson,Jordan, Foster, Caddy probably don't belong in the top 10..

DeShaun Foster in round 1 would be madness.

Whoops I just re-read the post. Putting DeShaun Foster in the top 12 RB is not as much madness, but still seems high to me.

yeh thats understandable ... not knowing what other moves carolina may make makes it hard to predict ... i'm thinking if he was the featured back & TDs weren't getting vultured like last year i could see him ending up with very good numbers.i'm not a fan of drafting a wr in rd 1, that's why i didn't put one there. i do think manning is worthy of a rd 1 pick.

As a basis for comparison, here were all the players that scored 250 or more points last year (QBs oVVn this list):

Shaun Alexander 364

Larry Johnson 335

LaDainian Tomlinson 318

Carson Palmer 318

Tom Brady 310

Tiki Barber 305

Peyton Manning 294

Eli Manning 281

Matt Hasselbeck 278

Drew Bledsoe 274

Drew Brees 271

Edgerrin James 268

Trent Green 267

Kerry Collins 266

Michael Vick 262

Jake Plummer 260

Jake Delhomme 260

Brett Favre 251

(I took the original post as who would be the top scorers not where guys will get drafted.)

yeh the jackson/jordan/foster/caddy & even julius were sort of guesses from me. thing is, who would you replace them with? i think they're all capable of having very good seasons; i know injuries are a concern with some of these guys but thats even harder to predict ...

yes, i do realize that all in all, QBs do rank just as high as many rbs when it comes to total points ... i did mean this to be a list of where guys would get drafted though.so why don't more QBs get drafted in rd 1? i for one, only put manning there because the's the only surefire QB to do well & stay healthy all year (IMHO) and he has a lot of upside without edge now .. we all know he's capable of 40+ tds ...

In summary, QB are far too risky to take in the first round unless you start 2 QB in your league or unless you have some funky scoring rules. They just are not worth taking in the first round (IMO)--even Manning. If there are 12 starting QB in tour league, they generally score pretty close together (see the list I posted). But the range of scoring at other positions is a lot greater (usually at RB although WR and TE also have a wide scoring range).

In the first round, usually the Top 10-12 RB off the board are pretty reliable and predictible (barring injury). Taking a QB in the first round will *normally* force a team to have weaker RBs. But having a stronger QB *normally* does not often get you that great a scoring advantage vs other QB.

There's a lot more to it than just that (like QBs not usually posting back-to-back huge seasons in a row), but that's it in a nutshell.
