Who do you find has the best FF advice? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I'm talking about weekly articles or specific writers, stuff like that. I already know about the footballguys but I was wondering if there were any other obvious sites I should be taking a look at to enhance my fantasy IQ.

Also on the flip side what sites do you consider to be horrible with their fantasy advice?

Hard to judge the advice of an entire network. I like Erik Kuselias on ESPN but wouldn't give the time of day to what Mike Golic thinks about FF. Same for CBS and even this site. I like specific writers but not all of one site as a whole.

I think once you really get into the hobby, most of the advice on mainstream sites and other media outlets becomes pretty nooby and one size fits all. Most of it is aimed at the casual player.

I'm with the FFdork. The mainstream stuff is al pretty simplistic and full of garbage. Fbg's, Footballoutsiders, fftoday....those are the sites you should bother with.

Most sites don't offer much insight from what I could tell.

I only use them for injury reports and for deeper information, should I start Finley over Carlson this week, etc...

But even then they are lacking.

I think the smart thing to do is to try to stay ahead of the curve (this is where this forum excels), even ahead of these so called experts, from the free sites at least.

I like Yahoo, the guys on there are funny and usually have some decent insight.
Welcome to FBG's. A lot of folks around here are pretty down on Yahoo it seems. I'm afraid you might get some negative responses for this post. I wanted to get one nice comment in for you before some negative ones come. :bye:

I'll agree with that, they're very entertaining for sure, but that's as far as I go.Their fantasy advice is common knowledge to say the least.

I long ago found no meaning or relevance to fantasy beat writers that recommend one player or another. They always have an out to explain why their projections are off. As well, they may be biased to thier own teams. I dont subscribe to FBG's for this reason as well. As much as I appreciate this site. I noticed the "rate my team" feature, which is really cool. It said I had a 50% chance of making the postseason "with good team management". I checked some others teams that said that they had a "99% chance of making the playoffs". Guess which team is 3-0 and which is 1-2?

If you lock into any one resource, I think you fall into the danger of falling into "groupthink". Every team is managed identically, and there is no separation. I value sites like Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio, and Jerry McDonald's "Inside the Oakland Raiders" Blog (Raiders Homer). I don't care about stat projections or target projections or any of the codes that are run. The more relevant information you have, and you can do your own analysis better than the "experts".

Overall, FBG. Although, I like bits and pieces from other sites as well. For example, while I don't always agree with the choices I like Matthew Berry's The Talented Mr. Roto column because of its format particularly the From the Obvious Name Department and Welcome to Dumpsville. Population: You sections.

Agree it is about individuals. I know the OP didn;t ask about rankings, but within ESPN, Christopher Harris has done the best for me (last year plus this year so far)(What I've done is pick 8-10 match up issues per week in my leagues and see who made the right call.)

Although as a human being the guy seems like a total #### (uh ...jerk) [yikes what happened to the language filter] - Fantasy Guru has some pretty good takes. And he had the smarts to hire Greg Cosell, an original (and still there) NFL Films guy that does very cool film breakdown stuff. Love the podcasts.

Obviously, I prefer FBG, but I end each night during football season scanning through the articles at the following link for tidbits I might not catch here.

Some sites I completely ignore, some sites offer humor, and once in a while I find something that is missed by FBG.

Other than FBG and the above link, I like to read Pro Football Weekly, specifically the "way we hear it" articles.

Fantasy Guru and Footballguys are the tops out there for me and I've been with both for a long time. As far as stats are concerned FBG is hands down the best. I like the insight you get from Guru with Cosell and the other staffers there too.

fantasyfootballnerd.com/index.php is great to see groupthink in one place. I enjoy Yahoo's columns too - and now I'll duck out of the way!

Brunoboys is simply the worst. Their advice is almost as horrible as their grammar.

I like FBG's and I was also a big fan of KFFL's thinking on their PPR draft cheat sheets, so I do check with their rankings as well.

Great thread.

I re-visited pre-season rankings for top 10 at wr qb and rb on free sites, pay sites and magazines yesterday. To see how those predictions were panning out so far. Face it who ever has the most top 10 players at any given position usually does well. Of course its very early yet, but so far the actual top ten at those positions through week three compared to the pre-season predictions for top 10 are as follows: WR about 30% correct, RB about 40% correct, QB about 70% correct. (if a pre-season prediction had a qb for instance at 3 overall among qb's and they are now 10th I still considered that correct). The more up to date pay sites were still about as "correct" as the out of date magazines.

Generally I think pre-season predictions are about 50% correct at best at the end of the season. The main reason for this I think is that if a site predicted Flacco for instance to finish top 5 and Brady to finish 10th or lower, which could happen, is that if a site did predict Flacco so high NOBODY would take anything that site said seriously. It is group think (if we go out on a limb for a player and nobody else does how does that make us look) and way too much emphasis is given to what happened last year or over a career to date.

The wrong pre-dictions are not just due to unexpected injuries either. Everything changes form year to year, surrounding players, coaches, schedule, who got paid, everyone is a year older etc...

Players for the most part, except for true hall of famers like Peyton, will generally go up or down from last year's numbers and not stay the same. I take the pre-season predictions and try to figure out which players have the most red flags, which are likely to go down and avoid them. S jackson was preseason top 5 at rb on almost all lists? Come on, bad team, no qb, no def, only played 16 games once in a season. I try to take young up side players (except for qb) at all positions and have done pretty well.

I follow throughout the season: Roto World for injuries and starter info, and this site for waiver info and for the awesome forums like this one. Cbs sports line is actually not that bad for fantasy predictions and info. (I know I'll get slammed for that)

Obvs I rely heavily on FBGs, less so on FFToday and a few other decent sites (or rather specific writers).

However, what I really enjoy is reading the hometown newspapers of all my rostered players. Seems a little daunting on the front end, but once you have them all bookmarked it doesn't take that much time. Beat writers and local fan boards give a different perspective than something that has been filtered through a central depot of information. Its not all useful, but you pick up a lot of tidbits and under the radar stuff that gives you a little better feel where the team is at.

Also, I'd say the longer I do this, the less I rely on anyone elses opinion. I like to read or listen to as much as I have time for, but kind of take it all with a grain of salt.
