Who is Berrian's Replacement? (1 Viewer)

The Bears used Justin Gage in Berrian's place after he left the game on Sunday. Rashied Davis seems to have the deep speed but Lovie apparently is hesitant to start him. There are rumors they could activate Mark Bradley.

Any thoughts form the Bears homers?

It better be Mark Bradley if he's ready to go and all indication are that he is.

Right now, its about 48 hours after the fact and I'm still pissed off that Justin Gage has a job. He should have been cut before he left the locker room on Sunday afternoon.

Bradleys gotta be the guy if he's healthy. He started to look good last year before getting hurt. His great speed could help open the offense up, i think they missed Berrians wheels against Miami. Gage sucks, he probably shouldnt play anymore.

Thought from a Lions fan living in Chicago :(

This will be interesting. Gage fits the profile and plays that position, but his brutal showing last week will have people wondering if he can do it. I personally think he can, and will win this "job" after having a week to work with Rex.

Bradley also fits the profile, but something is wrong here. This guy is clearly not healthy, as he showed some flashes last year and had been a healthy inactive the last two weeks (meaning not on the injury report). This is who the job should go to.

Davis does not fit the profile. He is a WR3 who plays the slot and is good at it. He may get increased targets, but he will not inherit the position that Berrian's injury has created.

As I said above, I feel like Gage will get another chance. I think he is too slow to do what Berrian did in terms of 40+ yard receptions, but he is tall and has good hands and I am guessing he will get every opportunity to do the job.

Lovie just does not bench people after bad things happen...they get second and third chances...

I didn't see the game, what did Gage do that has people so against him? I saw that he had about 50 yds receiving. Did he fumble at a critical time in the game or something?

not being where's he's supposed to be in routes, not catching balls he could. maybe just a product of the lack of playing time this year. i still dont think he offers much besides being tall.

I went to elementary and high school with him, he is a couple of years younger, but I have followed his career fairly close. When he was at Mizzou, we (my friends) used to talk about how he never his routes as hard as he could and were surprised to see him have early success his rookie year with the Bears, I believe he had 2-3 late season TDs. He has never had blazing speed, but he does pose physical mismatches if he would use his size to an advantage. I didn't see what happened in the game, and hopefully he can turn it around, but look at Huard in KC, he looked lost against Cincy the first week and then came back and almost beat Denver on the road and is 5-2 since he took over. Sometimes you just have to get some playing time to get you going.

This was from Bob Henry's FBG Waiver Wire column (you do read more than the message boards I hope)

Rashied Davis - CHI

"Bernard Berrian left the game this week and Davis moved into the starting lineup. Davis is the team’s No. 3 receiver, and the No. 2 like Berrian, in the event of injury. He finished with 40 yards on five catches. Davis has finished with at least 30 yards in five straight games with 13 catches in that span and 2 TDs. "

Actually Davis did NOT move in as starter. Justine Gage played opposite Moose with Davis remaining in the slot. As for next week nothing has been said that I could find.

from Fantasy Guru.com

"Bear WR Bernard Berrian (rib) is likely out 2-4 weeks with the bruised

ribs he suffered in Sunday's game. In his absence, WR Mark Bradley will

likely be active, and Rashied Davis will likely take over the starting

spot."

from Draft Sharks

"Berrian actually called it an "accident" three times, and judging from his pained, tearful delivery we're guessing this little guy ain't gonna play for at least a month. Rashied Davis is our free-agent WR pick of the week."

I'd say whether Bradley or Gage start, Davis is still the player worth having. He plays whether it's Bradley, Gage or Berrian in the starting lineup and Grossman targets him, too. Gage has never been reliable. Bradley looked good until he got hurt, and he hasn't shown anything since.. so the question for him is.... is he really healthy? I don't know that he is. Davis is the guy I'm looking at here. Even if Gage starts, I'd much rather roll with Davis. :)

I haven't looked in a while. But Lovie said in his press conference that Bradley was set to go. Not much to go on so it's speculation at this point, here's the link.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...mully07.article

"Smith said receiver Mark Bradley is ready to return from a high ankle sprain and didn't seem too interested in moving Rashied Davis into the starting lineup opposite Muhsin Muhammad when asked about that possibility.

Bradley has played a bit role in two games, making one catch for five yards on the season, while Davis appears to have the speed and guts necessary to make an impact in Berrian's place.

Justin Gage, who entered the game when Berrian went out, had a costly fumble and doesn't appear to have much of a future with the Bears.

''I can play anywhere they put me,'' Davis said when asked if he could line up outside. ''I play special teams, gunner [on punts], kickoff [coverage], kick return ... I feel like I'm in the Arena game."

There isn't any actual news in this Fanball blurb, but I thought it was interesting how Bradley phrased his comment.

THE NEWS

Bears wide receiver Mark Bradley expects to see more action while starting wide receiver Bernard Berian is out with a rib injury. "I feel like I am ready to go out and basically match what he has been doing," Bradley told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday. "I feel comfortable that I can give the team a little bit of what he did, if not the same." Berrian is listed as doubtful and is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Giants.

Our View

We initially believed Justin Gage would start in place of Berrian. Although nothing is official, there are rumblings that Gage hurt his chances by fumbling in last week's loss to the Dolphins.

Any new news on this? This could be a critical situation to us bubble teams that need a to win badly. Sounds like Bradley is that guy. He's got talent, as shown last season.

Bradley is still returning from the ACL correct? Seems like a bigtime risk reward there. And do you really want to add more risk, if you're already thinking about picking up a waiver wire Bear WR replacement in the first place?

Rasheed Davis looks like the guy to me. He is a playmaker from what I've seen. I watched him in the Arena league in San Jose, and the guy just produces. Played both ways in the AFL, won offensive MVP one year, he was virtually a man among Boys there. Maybe he pulls a Kurt Warner, who knows.

This year, even as the 4th option in the passing game (pre Berrian injury), seemed like Davis was in there making plays when he had the chance. He caught 5 passes last week, so he looks very involved in the offense... Not to mention that we all know Gage is not going to get it done, so it's either Davis or BRadley. I'll take Davis, no question.

I'm pretty sure R Davis is the starter. I won't list the same links already in this thread. That's not to say they are correct, but I believe Davis is the guy.
