Who is really backing up James Conner? (1 Viewer)

Gatorman

Supreme Elite Maximum Tier
Any thoughts?  I guess if he goes down it was a fun ride, but who is the next man up there, or are they sitting on their couch right now (Murray perhaps?)

This is a great question that needs to be discussed.

Samuels was recently promoted to #2 on the depth chart, when PIT decided to remove Bell from it.

My guess is that Samuels and Ridley would split work evenly, making both somewhat valuable but neither nearly as valuable as Conner.

yeah, I would say the same.  Both Samuels and Ridley would get picked up as all of fantasy tries to figure this out.  I think it would be samuels first, but if bell continues this holdout I could see DeMarco getting a phone call or something...

The Steelers haven’t engaged in even splitting of carries since the days of Richard Huntley and Fu’amatu.  They didn’t without Bell last week despite many posters insisting they would.  Can’t see them starting to now out of the blue.

The question then is which of their remaining backs would get the primary load?  My guess would be Ridley, given the team’s usual deference to veterancy and the fact that he likely has the ins and outs of the passing game playbook more intuitively mastered than Samuels.

Samuels is listed as the backup & he fits the offense perfectly.

Samuels would be an instant producer if he gets an opportunity with his underrated running ability & elite pass-catching skills.

I don't see them all of the sudden going to a split, but they can't keep giving Conner as many touches as they did last week either

Or they just don't care and figure when he collapses, they will just insert Ridley/Samuels and when they get to game 10, insert Bell.
Conner most likely won't survive if they continue to use him just as much going forward.
