I've been having this conversation with lots of people for years and years... A lot of usual suspects always find their way into the argument, starting all the way back with Ed and Ralph on the Honeymooners and going to present day Family Guy.

For me, I think it has to be Al Bundy and I don't even think it is close... Guy is untouchable, literally, how else do you score 4 touchdowns in one game?

Bret Maverick is the epitome of a poker-playing rounder, always seeking out high-stakes games and rarely remaining in one place for long. Critics have repeatedly referred to Bret Maverick as arguably the first TV anti-hero

I had a few good thoughts on this, but now I see /thread in the 2nd post. Next time I'll be faster

Immediate thought was Archie Bunker and I think he's hard to top.

Bunker was way ahead of his time.

Bundy continued in that vein and did it well.

Homer Simpson is iconic and the fact that hes been the same for 24 years goes a long way.

Peter Griffin came out strong and lost a lot of steam with the way hes portrayed now.

Costanza and Kramer are great second bananas but they cant hold a show together by themselves.

Jay Pritchett is one of my favorites as well. Hes so sure of himself and not always wrong. Great stubborn old man that loves his family.

Maybe, but he's got some stiff competition in the greatest character with a name that ends in "al" category.Along with Swearengen, there's also Hal whateverhislastnameis, and Mal Reynolds.

Big Ed O'Neil fan, are you?

Those 3 have to be in any top 10 list imo. Others are debatable.

so many good ones

Ralph Kramden

Lt. Columbo

Archie Bunker

George Costanza

The Fonz

Kirk

Al Bundy

Soo many options, hard to narrow it down. The ones that stuck with me the most were

Walter White

Tony Soprano

Al Swearengen

All three were memorable, unique, and incredibly well played and written.
