Evilgrin 72

Most of the denizens of the Shark Pool are familiar with the usual suspects here. Out of all the illustrious posting careers of our constituency, which do you feel has most consistently and fervently displayed the characteristics of blind homerism? I will accept as many nominations as will fit in a poll (15, I believe?) and then we can all vote. Please post your nominations here (you may nominate yourself or anyone else), and may the biggest pimp win......I hope the mods, in their infinite wisdom, do not see fit to move this to the FFA. 90% of those guys could care less what gets discussed in here, and the idea will likely die on the vine. I don't believe this qualifies as pissing in the pool. TIA.

Jason Wood, but recently he's broken out the :bag: so maybe not so good a candidate.
Noted.I haven't seen much of Woodrow lately - have I just been looking in the wrong places, or has he become scarce since the Eagles went in the tank?

While Grid is a Bears fan no doubt about it I do not think he fits the blind homer criteria of this thread. He is brutaly honest about Bears players strengths and weaknesses and is pretty objective about the Bears most of the time imo.Perhaps a better definition of "homer" is needed?

Define homer please?

Knowledgeable?

Blindly follows team/home players regardless of facts?
Usually homers are knowledgeable because they're passionate, so you can consider that, but the main qualification is in bold.

How can you be a homer if you are a bandwagon jumper and dont really root for any hometown teams? Wasnt he an Eagles fan and isnt he a White Sox and Pheonix Suns fan?

<<<<<<<<<<<<See Avatar...See the world through Purple shades and bleeds purple.. Does that count?? ;) :football:

Homer (n.) - One who relentless pimps his/her favorite team. One who feels his team, its players, its coach, and its management can do no wrong. Someone who will go to the ends of the Earth to defend the team, its play, and its personnel moves. Someone who is set off by any criticism of the team, and who cannot simply accept it when the team is outplayed. That's a bout as good a definition as I can think of. Anyone want to change/add/rescind nominations based on this, please do so.

I am a Cowboy fan who lives in Canada...does that me any less a fan???

Woodrow is an Eagles season ticket holder and has been for some time. I also know he grew up in western NJ, which is decidedly Eagles country, so I have no doubt he is a tried-and-true Eagles fan.

OOPS.. Not a homer if it means I NEVER feel they do wrong. I KNOW they do wrong, I just choose to cheer them on regardless...

Will criticize when necessary, but will Always be a fan(AS long as they stay in Minnesota that is ;) )

No, you don't have to be from the town. I grew up in Giants/Jets territory and am a Steeler fan, and I don't know of a soul who would question my loyalty or knowledge of the franchise, whether it be my iFriends or tangible ones.

Based on this definition, how is anyone that rooted for the Patriots and called them the best team in football the last 2 years a homer? If they still pimp the Pats as the best this year, definitely HOMER city.

Keep 'em coming. Once I get 15 I approve, I will set up the poll. Please feel free to include snippets of postings for your nominees that prove your case, just for entertainment's sake. If you're not too lazy, that is. :)

:goodposting: I nominate Chase Stuart. Please give it up with the Jets already.

No because Canadians dont have any real teams to pick from. You have to pick someone. Just like someone from Idaho or Montana in the States has nobody to root for.

I doubt he'd win, but I nominate Maurile Tremblay, San Diego Chargers. Other than him and the ones already listed, I don't really know who likes which teams...

Yes, I dont question his Eagle alliance. What about all of his other "choices"? Where I come from, you dont CHOOSE your team, you are BORN to it.

Then I nominate Kit Fisto, based on Pat Patriot's definition.

That all depends on your parents/friends, etc. For example, I grew up in NJ, but the only local teams I root for are the Nets and Rangers (Devils did not yet exist when I first watched hockey). My dad didn't give a wet fart about sports, so I was raised in an atmosphere of neutrality. I have a lot of family in western PA that are fervent Steeler fans, and between that and the fact that the Steelers were a dominant force when I started watching football, that wore black uniforms and pounded you into submission, I became a Steeler fan. I have been for about 27 years now, and there was no going back for me. So, I don't know what the circumstances surrounding Jason's choices are, but I can't blast the guy.

I hope the mods, in their infinite wisdom, do not see fit to move this to the FFA. 90% of those guys could care less what gets discussed in here, and the idea will likely die on the vine. I don't believe this qualifies as pissing in the pool. TIA.
Well then you must be nominated for your blind Steeler love. Despite the fact the Bengals are better you probably think the Steelers are better. :boxing:

I thought that was understood? He started this poll so that he could finally win something. He must be having a rough fantasy season.

jwvdcw with Pinner. I'll say Grid with Da Bears and Steelers for Life / Evilgrin72 with the Steelers of course.

Actually, I am 12-1 and 8-5 and seeded #1 and #3 in both my $$ leagues ($250 buy-in and $500 buy-in). I'll accept a nomination, but I didn't really expect it. There are much bigger Steeler homers on this board than I am, IMO. I started this poll because the question was asked at :e: (Pat, you were mentioned early) so rather than discuss it among the handful of people who frequent The Cage, I brought the question here where everyone could get in on it. Thanks for playing, though.P.S. I do still think the Steelers are better than Cincinnati. After all these years, I simply cannot accept otherwise. :P

Noted.I agree with you on the Pinner thing - that was absurd, but jwvdcw is actually reasonable when it comes to the Ravens. I say man-love is more apt than homer when describing him.

jwvdcw says himself that he's a homer, but I think he's more of a :fishing: than a homer.
