Who to draft from the Five spot? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,

I am in a PPR league and drafting number 5 in a 10 team league. Before the injury to Clinton Portis, I was set on taking either him or Tiki Barber. The injury to CPORT and the recent trade for Duckett has chased me away from him. I would love to take Tiki, but I'm afraid he might be gone with the 4th pick. The next best player to me is Ronnie Brown. I don't like SJAX simply because of the RAMS D giving up too many points, and the fact that he's NOW nursing tendonitis in his heel and missing practices.. Am I sipping too much of the Ronnie Brown kool-aide? Who do I take with the 5th pick if Tiki goes at number 4?

Thank for any help....

I am in the exact same situation- now I am thinking of moving down and taking Cadillac Williams. It might be worth it.
Trading down is a solid move because the value of the 5-10 backs (Caddy, Edge, Sjax, Brown, Rudi, Jordan) is pretty level. If you are stuck at 5. Ronnie seems like the pick in PPR leagues - he's one of the best receivers in the group and doesnt have the problem of being in a possibly bogged down offense playing from behind a lot like Jordan or Edge. No PPR, and I would take Caddy.

In the same position as you. I actually traded up to 5 a couple of months ago hoping to land Tiki or Portis. Now wouldn't mind trading back out.

Assuming Tiki's gone at 4, I'm seriously thinking about Rudi. I consider him the safest bet of that next tier, if not the highest ceiling.

Disclaimer: My league is not PPR and weights TDs slightly more heavily vs. yardage than other leagues.

If I had #5 in a PPR it'd be an easy decision. Take Ronnie Brown and smile. He catches a LOT of balls, gets all goal line carries and is now all alone in the backfield for a team that's improving.

To me Portis Caddy and SJax will be consumed by the injury bug off and on.

OK guys, I guess this is my next question. Assuming Tiki is there at the 5th pick, Tiki has a TOUGH schedule, compared to Ronnie Brown who has an easy schedule especially during weeks 14-16 which are the most important weeks in fantasy football. Tiki also has age and Brandon Jacobs POSSIBLY stealing touches. Would I be crazy to take Ronnie Brown over Tiki. Am I reading too much into strenght of schedule and Brandon Jacobs stealing touches?

I'm drafting at #5 in a 14-team league on Sunday and (assuming the Big 3 and Tiki are gone) I'm grabbing Peyton...

All the othe backs have issues in my opinion and none will deliver the total points of Manning (6 pt. TD plus HEAVY yardage and TD bonuses in my league). I'll hope to grab Gates (big bonuses for TEs in this no TE required league) in the 2nd and Wayne (a Top 3 WR this year IMO) in the 3rd. I'll grab two or three RB2/3s (we only HAVE to start one RB) while everyone else is grabbing Aaron Brooks and Michael Vick and Adam Vinaiteri and hope someone emerges as a reliable RB. Points are points and I think this maximizes value at #5.

Probably. If Tiki is there at #5 I'm grabbing him, I just don't expect him to be there. Tiki WILL produce Top 5 numbers. Ronnie Brown MIGHT, but there isn't much data to go on...
