Who were the trendy picks at this time last year? (1 Viewer)

+1 to Leon Washington The story we told ourselves was Jets run a ton so there's plenty of production to go aroundHe has crazy talent and the coaches would be crazy not to use himJones is old and could break down this year(Then rookie) Shonn Greene isn't good enough to compete for carries
Why are we leaving out the part where Washington breaks his leg early in the season and was out for the year?
It wasn't that early, it was week 7, he had 0 TDs and went over 100 total yards once in 6 games. He was pretty disappointing before the broken leg.

Steve Smith, Giants
Nobody was that high on Smith. It was not until his first week where people started to zero in on him, and there were still doubters after 4 weeks into the season.
I do remember the "Which Steve Smith will score the most fantasy points?" thread... Carolina's was way in the lead and pretty much all the NYG'ers voters were shtick. That got really fun when shtick won.
There was another great thread where a guy (I think the commish) had 'screwed' someone by forcing him to keep SS NYG which he had accidentally put up on the board when trying to select SS CAR. Good times...

Guys I bought in to last year:

Ward

Donald Brown

Morgan

Eddie Royal

Braylon Edwards

Most of my three different teams had at least two of these guys.

Rough year, to say the least.

If we're going into the Wayback Machine (and it looks like we are) ... remember Tyrone Calico (WR, Titans) in the 2004 preseason?

Aaron Rodgers ... above Manning, Brees and Brady. Many had huge issues with that.
Glad people had issues, I scooped A-Rod in two leagues after those guys were off the board. This year I do not plan of getting a sniff of him.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Kevin Smith. I remember a ton of hype about him at this time last year.
I thought there was more hype for him 2 years ago (I was in on it myself). Last year it seemed like people were hesitant due to his injuries.

donald brown was getting unreal hype last yr. it was considered qed he was >>>>>>>>>beanie bc he was drafted higher. and it was all but certain he would be the primary back over addai. addai hate was oppressive.

the other darling ofc, was knowshon.

funny how this yr, everyone is quick to cite wells as having the better ability and athleticism etc.
Last year Hightower was going to have the job all season.

Welcome Aboard

If you jump to page 210 or so, you will find a lot of topics around same time this year about this

Link to about 4 pages worth of project sleepers and breakout candidates

2009 Sleepers and Breakouts

A lot of bad and good picks in there
I think that the ones stuck in our collective heads serve some value. The remembered hypes are probably things we learned from in some way.

Josh Morgan had quite a bit of a hype train around this time last year. I bought into it big time, think I grabbed him in all 4 of my leagues. Oh well.
People were calling him Anquan Colston, saying he was a mix of the two. Keep that in mind. great thread BTW

I seem to recall a lot of talk about how great M Cassell and D Bowe were going to be in the "new" KC offense. That didn't work out so well. I've also seen the same predictions for this season - I'm not buying it FWIW.

Eddie Royal.

He was supposed to be the Wes Welker clone under Josh McDaniels offense. We all know what happened there.

I didn't want to go on and on, but Gr00vus has a point. The OP wanted to know how it turned out. Still, with all respect for Washington, he's a great example of a player who did his job in real life (change of pace/3rd down guy) but didn't have much fantasy impact.

There was some Julius Jones hype...
That was the year before. Last year there was Edge hype in the SEA backfield even by the staff. I thought that was really strange at the time given the difference in OL between ARZ and SEA and given the modest production by Edge in ARZ the year before.

I took McFadden 4.1 and Derrick Ward 6.1 in a 12-team half ppr. Somehow I only missed the 4 team playoffs by a game.

Not sure it was pre-season, because I think he was hurt for a while, but surprised I haven't seen mention of this yet...

The Torain Train

He was going to revolutionize the TE position after a big ending to the 2005 season with the Saints.

6'8" 260 pounds = Zach Hilton

I bought it hook line and sinker.......then he was cut before the season started.

Wasn't he the guy whose career was ended by a Roy Williams horsecollar?I think it was him then the Raven RB and finally TO gets the broken leg, than the NFL says enough is enough.3 broken legs in one year. The raven RB might have been an ankle.
