Who will be JAX's starting RB next season? (1 Viewer)

I took Drew in the 2nd round of our rookie draft last year and gave him a 4 year contract. Unfortunately I think we could be looking at a RBBC situation in J'ville for a few years. :-(

Taylor? Jones-Drew? Greg Jones?
Taylor is going to be 31 next season (he'll turn 31 this January) and will be a free agent after next season, as well. Those factors usually make a player a pretty good candidate for a salary cap cut.Greg Jones is obviously coming off his 2nd or 3rd ACL tear.Drew is getting about 1/3 of the carries right now, but has been active in the passing game and has scored 6 TD's.I'll gamble and say that Maurice Drew is the every down back and Greg Jones is the fullback and spells Drew. Taylor is a cap cut.

I see armageddon over the offseason, with Taylor and either Leftwich or Del Rio gone.

The Del Rio Experience is spinning out, with ridiculously up and down performance as a team, terrible wide receiver play, and linemen who can't seem to avoid DUIs.

Taylor goes to Denver or New England or the Jets or the Bears or some run-oriented old school football team. Maybe the Titans or the Texans. Now that would be funny.

Knowing Taylor's contract money would be good information here, but I'm guess a RBBC with or without Taylor.

Greg Jones was looking great this pre-season and wil have a full year of recovery time.

Jones-Drew has looked explosive.

Taylor is still very productive.

Coaches don't play fantasy football with their teams. If many RBs are productive, coaches will often use them all. Just look at Indy and New England.

Taylor is due $2.55M next season in salary. As I stated above, it's the last year of his contract.Maurice Drew makes $275,000.Greg Jones is due $460,000 next year.

I don`t have any JAX players but watching Taylor this year he look very good. The guy is big and still can juke with the best of them.

I am clueless as to what the RB situation will be next year. It took Greg Jones two whole years to get back to what he considered full strength following his previous knee injury. I don't know how much that has to do with recovery from this injury, but it should be noted. Maurice Drew's play will make it alot easier for the team to provide an exit door for Fred Taylor. HOWEVER, I know Fred will be 32 years of age next season and for a RB that is considered old, but he's had alot less snaps than would be expected of a RB of his caliber. His tires have some good tread left. If he his cut or traded, and I hope he isn't, then some team will be pretty lucky.

Jacksonville under Del Rio was 5-11 , 9-7 , 12-4 the past three seasons.

The offense, the scheme, and the coach will not be changing anytime soon.

Taylor will be the #1 next year, with MJD spelling him.

To think otherwise would be wishful thinking at best

There are a few RB's who'll likely be on the Jaguars' radar screen next season:

Michael Turner

Ladell Betts

Anthony Thomas ( don't know his contract status, but I'd assume they'd take a look at him if he's available. has looked good in Buff. this season)

Thomas Jones

The Jags will not go after a big-name FA RB or use a day-1 pick on that position next year, IMO. I'm not sure how '07 will play out, but by '08 (or during '08), I believe Jones-Drew will be considered one of the best RBs in the NFL (both in real time & FF).

The Jags were pretty much set on Greg Jones eventually being "the guy" this year and taking over for Taylor. I can't see Taylor back for another season, so I would say that Jones and Jones-Drew will be a 2-headed monster next year. I don't know why the Jags would sign a free agent RB if they have options there already. What they need is to draft a young QB.

Fred Taylor won't be playing for the Jaguars next year.

Del Rio wants a backfield of MJD and Greg Jones at RB/FB.

Expect them to have one of the top rushing attacks in the NFL.

I think your right. MJD will be the first 5'6" RB ever in the history of the league to be considered "one of the best RBs in the NFL"!!  :loco:

They already have a young QB. His name is Byron Leftwich.
