Who will be the Raven's "other" safety? (1 Viewer)

Akkum

A camp fight between BJ Ward and Dawan Landry for the job opposite Ed Reed?

Or will they go after a veteran guy cut during training camp?

Does it matter?

Will Demps, despite lofty expectations did not exactly light it up last year
Harsh......but very true. With Ray back this year, the starting safety opposite Reed is even less desirable.

Will Demps is now in a Giants uniform.
Well aware of that - I was refering to the hype on Demps last year when they installed the 4-6 - put up MLB numbers my bare behind....

It sounds like Rex Ryan may try another hybrid defense after failing to install the 46 last year. Could use a 4-4-3 base until teams start running 4 and 5 WR sets at them and they get torched a few times. Landry and Pittman both sound like they're off to an impressive start, so I'd look for either of them to have more value than Ward, or they'll bring in a vet.

Not sure if this effects the Baltimore's depth chart or not Per KFFL:

It won't. Sapp was a solid ST player who was well respected by the Raven coaching staff. He got caught in a roster crunch in 2004 and was waived. I was hoping for a big bruiser to fit the 46 role, but Landry or Ward could have some value. Tenacious, do you have a link on the 4-4-3 alignment?

I read it in a couple of places when I was preparing my first idp projections. I tried googling it and didn't get any results. I think KFFL when they were talking about the Ravens DBs.The Ryan boys are a couple apples that fell far from the tree. Rex did good with the DLine, but he's a flop so far as the man. The 46 was a failure before Lewis and Reed went down, but you've got to give the guy some slack, at least enough to hang himself, until he gets his two DPOY healthy for a whole year.

Thanks.Sounds like more or less of a 46 front, with a slightly different alignment of the linebackers to hide the weaker safety. Should've just drafted a bruiser like Blue or Bing, IMO.

Bodes well for Thomas' numbers, though.

Mike Duffy, of BaltimoreRavens.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens have traded a 2007 conditional draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for S Gerome Sapp. The trade is conditional on Sapp passing a physical.
TSNThe team reacquired S Gerome Sapp by sending a conditional 2007 draft pick to the Colts. Sapp was a solid special teams player for Indianapolis, but could become a starting safety with the Ravens. Sapp has the most experience of any of the safeties he will compete against including rookie Dawan Landry, B.J. Ward, Jamaine Winborne and Robb Butler. Sapp is a tough and rigid player, in the mold of former Ravens S Will Demps. Sapp isn't going to make a lot of plays going backwards, but can become like an extra linebacker playing near the line of scrimmage on running plays. Sapp was a sixth-round pick of the Ravens in 2003, and showed a lot of promise then. But head coach Brian Billick decided to waive Sapp in favor of veteran Corey Fuller because Fuller had recruited Deion Sanders to the Ravens. . . .
