Who would you bet your life on to win the SB if you knew one of the tw (1 Viewer)

If you knew 1 of these two teams won the Super Bowl, which won would you think it was?

The New England Patriots are 2-0 while the San Diego Chargers are 0-2. It would seem like an easy decision normally to say I'd take the 2-0 team but even with it being the New England Patriots, I'm not so sure I would here.

I look at the 2 games the Chargers lost. They lost to Carolina on the last play of the game on a play that wouldn't go for a TD 50 percent of the time. Carolina then came back to win their next game over a Bears team who destroyed the Colts at home in week 1 proving Carolina's solid.

In week 2, they played Denver and were completely hosed on a playcall, then were victim of one of the bravest decisions I've ever witnessed in going for 2 points instead of the tie at the end of the game. The week before, Denver blew out Oakland in Oakland while Oakland comes back to blow out Kansas City in KC while they only lost 17-10 in New England the week before.

I have problems with SD, the loss of Merriman, LT's toe, and Gates's toe. But if you knew one of these teams did win, I just have a hard time thinking Cassell can lead this team to a SB.

What kind of shot does New England have? They're obviously better than the Jets, Jets beat Miami week 1 making Buffalo the only real threat in the division. Can NE pull this off?

I was definitely impressed by Philip Rivers and the Chargers depth on offense (a la, Darren Sproles) in Sunday nights loss/win against the Broncos. However, I think Jim Nantz hit it on the head when he said, and I'm paraphrasing, that taking the 2007 season into account, the Patriots are back to being the old-scrappy Patriots of yore. They scored so much points last year that the defense wasn't really relied on too much like it was in the past. Now, they're back to being the same old, grind-it-out, smash mouth football team they were before they acquired Randy Moss and Wes Welker in 2007. If Matt Cassel can just manage the games and the RB committee can continue to produce and keep one another fresh, I see a 2001-esque Super Bowl run -- where they win in the last minutes and keep you guessing until the end. Then again, the Chargers certainly have the firepower to make a run at it despite being 0-2. Although the defense left a lot to be desired on Sunday night, I think. It could really go either way, but I'm taking the Patriots. :goodposting: !

San Diego is almost certainly the better team. New England is more likely to win the Super Bowl at this point. The reasons being (rather obviously) that even if they're inferior they're more likely to make the playoffs since they're not 2 games back already. They're also much more likely to grab a 1st round bye which thanks to HFA and compounding numbers is a major boost to your SB chances.FWIW, I'd take Dallas or the Colts ahead of either of them. And maybe the Steelers too.

San Diego will be fine; the losses may even be motivational.

As far as New England goes, we have insufficient data. Ask me in 4 weeks, after SD hosts the Pats in Week 6.

SD is a tipped pass and a fumble away from being 2-0

their defense is shaky but they will make playoffs

NE is being seriously overlooked right now. They are still the best team in the AFC. In another 2 months Cassel will be broken in and NE will still be chalking up wins.

Much as it pains me to say, I think SD is in better position to win it all right now. I look at the offense and I look at some of the competition ( DAL, PHI, DEN ) and I don't believe that NE D can hold those top flight teams down, and I don't think that Cassel can go out and win those games right now.

Heretic! :lmao:
