Mays was taking all the first team reps at MLB before Gaither's recent injury. Matt Wilhelm had been taking at least half of the second team reps.
All current indications are that it's Mays' job on base defensive downs, with the nickel snaps still up in the air. Until Gaither gets fully healthy and the Eagles play a team that doesn't use a spread offense, the nickel will remain unclear.

(Rotoworld) Barring a dramatic push from Omar Gaither, Joe Mays will be the Eagles starting middle linebacker this season.
Analysis: Mays was well ahead even before Gaither sprained his knee last week. Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott admitted Sunday that it's going to be hard for Gaither to challenge Mays at this point. Gaither will still be in on passing downs, but Mays is the man that will replace Stewart Bradley (ACL).

Well, Fokou is from the University of Maryland, so it's hard for me not to be excited about him.But, he did have two DUMB penalties on third-and-long situations last night that could factor into his case to make the team. I just snatched Fokou off the wire. I already picked Mays up a week ago. Bradley is on my IR. (I even managed to get Mikell off the wire a week ago by the way.) The NFC East runs the football. Whoever gets that middle spot in Philly will show up lovely in the box scores for at least 6 games this season! I'm pumped that Fokou is a UMD kid (my alma-mater), but I still hope Portis trucks him a few good times! Go 'Skins!!!

Honestly, I don't think it's worth much. Fokou has made some mistakes that can cost the team in prior games, and Mays should be the starter. Wilhelm is also around.I see the Eagles' LB being, and I'm guessing it's keep 7:Gocong-Mays-Jordan, with Gocong & Jordan mostly in the nickel.Gaither, Wilhelm, Fokou, Daniels as reserves. If they keep 6, I'd expect either Fokou to the practice squad, or one of Wilhelm/Daniels to be cut.burgundy and gold said:

Quite frankly with all the names being tossed around I plan on avoiding this situation altogether. I had Mays for a little while, but I don't like that he is coming out in the nickel and I don't like how many people are in the mix.
