Limiting this to players who wore #1 for the majority of their career. This leaves out great players like Oscar Robertson and Rogie Vachon, to name two, who wore a different number for most of their career. As always, write-in votes are welcome for someone not listed. Sorry, Garo Yepremian... this pass attempt cost you a spot.

Ozzie's the first one I thought of. Although Tony Fernandez once got 300 hits in a season for me in Tony Larussa baseball 2, so I'm partial to him as well.

 
Being a mets fan, Mookie is my favorite. "Little roller up along first, behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes knight and the mets win it!" I was three and that was my first exposure to baseball and the mets and I've loved both since.

Best 1 though is probably Ozzie.

 
Ozzie Smith is easily my favorite pro athlete who wore jersey #1.

At the Masters, the defending champion's caddy is assigned #1, so if you ever wanted to assign a jersey number to Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods, that is about as close as you can get.

Nomar didn't wear #1.

Richardson isn't the guy the Yankees retired #1 in honor of.

Tempelton is listed right after Ozzie Smith and before Bobby Doerr.

 
Are we ignoring College for some reason?

Anthony Carter the obvious one. Braylon Edwards another Wolverine. I remember Sam Cowart at FSU. My favorite Al Bell at Bama.

Braylon didn't wear 1 his whole career. He switched (as is customary at Michigan, the 1 is supposed to earned.)
