I think he's still one of the top pass blockers. Run blocking I agree.Allen is probably one of the best 3 OGs in NFL history, but hes not in the top 20-30 OGs at this point in his career.
My vote would be Hutch, followed by Waters.
I think Hutch takes the poll cuz he is the bestRegardless of who is really the best, I think you'll see Hutch take this poll easily just because he's in the news right now.
A good case can be made for #1 in NFL history when he was in his prime. I remember when Buschbaum said something like "Larry Allen is the best OG in the league, and if he moved to tackle he'd probably be the best OT in the league."Allen is probably one of the best 3 OGs in NFL history
FWIW, I agree with this statement, but did not want to hijack the thread by suggesting he was better than John Hannah with all the Pats fans on hereA good case can be made for #1 in NFL history when he was in his prime. I'm obviously not a Pats fan, but nobody will ever convince me that another guard walked the earth who was better than John Hannah. Saw the man play several games in person -- many of them at field level (my buddy Jim worked for a radio station and hooked me up with sideline passes), and this guy was pure destruction. He made Hall of Fame-caliber defensive tackles want to quit the game. Hannah was perfection at G.FWIW, I agree with this statement, but did not want to hijack the thread by suggesting he was better than John Hannah with all the Pats fans on hereA good case can be made for #1 in NFL history when he was in his prime. It's not just being a homer. I was going to mention him when I saw this thread early today. Thomas is playing at an extremely high level and not getting his props. They should consider moving him to the left side and letting him and Samuels plow the way for Portis. I know that's the idea with Jansen on the right side, but I like the way Samuels run blocks. Samuels is in the pro-bowl, Jansen gets all the praise, but Thomas is the best OL in DC.I'll be homerific and say that if Hutchinson is the #1 guard in the NFC (and I think he probably is), then Randy Thomas was #2. At least last year.
Larry Allen would make Chuck Norris cry. Meanest Mofo evah.I'm obviously not a Pats fan, but nobody will ever convince me that another guard walked the earth who was better than John Hannah. I like Shields as much as anyone else, but at this point in his career, IMO he's behind Hutch, Faneca and maybe Thomas.Shields has never missed a regular season game.Man as a KC guy this poll is TOUGH.....I voted SHields for his iron man streak that is almost as long as Favre's. I think WS's streak started week 2 of 1993 season.
I'm in no position to evaluate Thomas versus all the guards in football, but he was clearly the best lineman on the team last year. He should have gone to the Pro Bowl IMHO but for that broken leg. It's not just being a homer. I was going to mention him when I saw this thread early today.
