Why are candles so expensive? (1 Viewer)

Their target is women.

Put it up for $29, offer a buy 10 for $129.

OMG, do you know I saved us $161 dollars buying these candles!

:hot:

While there may be truth to what fantasycurse says, I think its a bit more complicated. You can get a $1 candle, but like other things, they aren't as good in quality. In addition to wax, the real cost is the oils that provide the smells. The fragrance has to smell good, and burn without smoke.

I just walked through an upscale mall and saw some pretty ordinary looking jeans and shirts going for hundreds of dollars. What's up with that?

The wax melts at least don't give me a headache. Cinnamon variations are my favorite, reminds me of walking by Cinnabon at the mall.

Get a ton of them at a flea mart, yard sale, thrift shop for a few bucks.

Big into candles and I bet I haven't spent a 100 bucks on them in my life.

Weird thread.  I feel like out of all of the things that can be complained about in regards to being overpriced--candles would probably not make the top 100 on my list.

Well, there are like 40000 threads already.

Candles are overpriced because people keep buying them at those prices for some odd reason.

Just seems odd to me. People will spend $100+ for a meal at a steakhouse and not complain.  They will spend $4 for a cup of coffee several days a week, hundreds of dollars for a pair of jeans--and not say a word.  There are plenty of high quality candles that are avaialble in the $10 or under range.  For me--the category of candles in general is not one that seems grossly overpriced.  The fact that there are more than a few people in this thread that feel otherwise is starting to make me feel that maybe I'm in the minority though.

You are why candles are so expensive.  Shame on you

Didn't these fancy scented candles basically start as mall stores?  I imagine the price was initially set for the high rent/overhead they had to pay and that kind of became the standard price they've stuck to even as they've become available online.

I've never bought a candle in my life. Although I've made a few with melted crayons in grade school.

The little things.

You need your fav mix drink, some matchs, tonights music, some insense (prefer cones to sticks) and ......candles, because the only light  will be  coming from your lava lamp and candle light.

Now ya stick a straw in your drink after lighting everything,  then ya put on the headphones and......see ya~~~~  A three drink night. A nice little bar is cool.

Cool candle holders add to the experience as does a variety in scents in the incense/candles.

So there ya sit chillin' with some whiskey and coke, as the smoke from the candles/incense drifts aimlessly toward the ceiling, surrounded by your world (man cave) with the headphones.................
