Why are so many WRs being injured out for the season this year? (1 Viewer)

The sheer amount of WRs that are out for the season this year compared to RBs has been astonishing. Any idea why this has been the case,
especially since RB is the most injured position, historically?

WRs out for the season:
Brandon Aiyuk
Christian Kirk
Chris Godwin
Hollywood Brown
Rondale Moore
Rashee Rice
Rashid Shaheed
Stephon DIggs

RBs out for the season:
None

Plenty of other WRs who also went on IR and missed four games or more. It truly has been a very odd fantasy season where we
are rostering a bunch of handcuffs with no payoffs so far.

You just jinxed it. Buckle up for a weekend of season-ending RB injuries.

LOL, I hope not, but I will say that my 12 teamer has guys like Chandler, Warren, Spears, B. Allen, Ekeler, etc. just wasting away taking up valuable roster spots with no bye week advantages either.

Seems normal
Eight doesn't seem too high.

Moore and Brown are often injured. Aiyuk...whatever reason it often happens to hold out guys.

I always get the same initial feel but then someone posts data here and I'm proven wrong
Usually a thread about QBs yet it's 65 or so start every year

Weren’t Moore and brown hurt before the season even started also?

The above list is also focusing only on specific higher profile receivers. I would like to see the list of all wide receivers in the league who have gone on season ending ir this year and past years.

I only included the higher profile ones in the list. There are a few more less profile WR injuries. The fact is, it just seems like there is so many WRs this year and yet on the flip side, guys like Kyren WIlliams, Barkley, Jacobs, Dobbins, who are often injured, have magically stayed healthy this year.

In all seriousness, it *feels* like teams are making greater efforts to manage the workloads of running backs, which might be lessening the risk of season-long injuries for that skill position. For example, my expectation is that you will see close to a 50-50 split between Hall & Allen tonight because it is a short week.

There have been plenty of RB's get dinged and miss a game or months and the backups have proved valuable. Not as much as the WR's, no RB's officially out of the season, but there have been plenty of spot start payoffs or extended payoffs, like Mason.

As to why big time fantasy WR's are going down at a larger clip then RB's? Ithink it's part random variance/bad luck, part usage and a little bit the way defenses are playing this year which is a lot more coverage designed to take away the big play which is leading to more underneath throws which usually puts the WR in running mode.

Conditioning. Usage. No huddle. Variety of route trees. Smaller guys taking bigger hits in the slot. etc.

Today's NFL receiver needs to be quick, fast, and shifty. This is incredibly tolling on the body and if they do take big hits, watch out.

I worry for Puka every time he gets up from a hit. Just takes big ones with his big body yet has all of the shiftiness and flashiness.
