Why are the Bears only favored by 4.5? (1 Viewer)

They clinched and have nothing to play for?

Oh and they're extremely overrated. Vegas wants you to think this bet is too good to be true.

The Bears have home field clinched and will likely rest players at some point.

From my betting days of yesteryear, I always found that if a line looked too good to be true, it was best to stay away from it.

I disagree. The Bears are, on average, outscoring their opponents by about 13 points. That includes the losses ... Detroit is the worst team on their schedule. They do have something to play for (division rival - losing to this team would be a complete embarassment - they STILL need to build Rex's experience & confidence - the backups who are replacing the injured still have a lot to prove), and are not THAT overrated.Bears should cover.

And the line did open at more like 7. Maybe the betting public is over-reacting to the word that backups will be playing. Chicago's backups are probably still better than Detroit's starters anyway, aren't they? Detroit's playing Cason and Harris at RB these days.

Bears will be playing this like a preseason game. Starters are likely in for first half and begining of 2nd. There will be also be some players playing in different positions to see how they hold up.

I still think the bears will win and cover though. But the secondary could be in for a rough go............
