Why can't Droughns find the endzone? (1 Viewer)

Yeah.......I know.......the Browns blow. I get it. But, I'm pretty sure I could get 3TD's outa Charlie Weis if I fed him the rock 450 times (please save the "Charlie would eat the rock" comments).

Why can't Droughns find the damn endzone? Can I get some serious analysis here?

The problem may be that the Browns have run about 5 plays inside the 5 during that span.

Cleveland has had a total of 2 rushing attempts from inside the 5 yard line this year; one by Droughns (TD) and one by Wright (no gain). They had a total of 7 last year. They've also had a total of 3 passes from inside the 5 this year; all three have gone for TDs (Winslow, Jurevicious, Dinkins). They had a total of 6 last year, with two TDs.So, the answer really is that the Browns blow; if they got into scoring position more often, they would score more often.

It's time for them to shake things up and start putting Harrison in there. Maybe use him like the Saints use Bush...get him out flanked wide and pass him the ball and let him make a play in the open field. He had a pretty solid pre-season.

The Browns were dead-last in the NFL in scoring in 2005. Its not like the touchdowns were going elsewhere - they just didn't score much. Droughns was 33% of their offense in 2005 but the opportunities really weren't there to score.

In 2006, they seemed to be setting up to focus on running the ball, but it seemed to me after the loss of C LeCharles Bentley, the plan changed and they got pass-happy. Droughns is only 21% of the offense now. Frye is mobile and he has been vulturing the rushing TDs at the goal-line, and when its not that its been the short pass to Winslow for the score.

You answered your own question in the original post.

They simply do not get down there often enough, and Droughns isn't that good of an RB to be scoring on 35-yard jaunts.

Rookie running back Jerome Harrison was inactive against the Denver Broncos because the Browns wanted an extra defensive back active. ``Thanks goodness we did'' that, coach Romeo Crennel said, after Gary Baxter's injury
http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/footba...ns/15861833.htmGuy is on the 53 man bubble - I don't know what happened to his stock from pre-season to in-season, but he doesn't appear to be anywhere near the top of the depth chart.
