I didn't watch the game but Foater had a 3.5 ypc and carried only 16 times for 54 yards. I would think that if the run game was stalling that bad he would at least gotten a couple of carries. Did the Panthers abandon the run game when Atlanta went up or what?
Sounded like ATL stacked the box because Smith was out. Therefore, doesn't seem like it was Foster's fault as even great RBs struggle when the other team plays heavily on the run. I think once Smith is back, Foster explodes and Fox knows this.
How's his pass blocking? That could be an issue as it often is for a rookie RB. We often concentrate so much on the really visible skill stuff that some less visible (but just as important) aspects of the game get overlooked.

If preseason is any indicator especially his Thursday night/prime time coming out party, then his pass blocking skills are far below average. He looks like a rooke RB, which is expected, and he is currently a liability to the offense.

He saw his first action midway through the 3rd quarter. On his first play, he was asked to stay in and block on Pass protection. John Abraham overpowered him and hit Delhomme as he was throwing, causing an INT (the INT was nullified b/c of a cheap penalty vs Atlanta). Deangelo was back on the bench the very next play.
Both lines of Carolina were flat out dominated by Atlanta. Makes for a long day running and/or passing. DWill was brought down to scale by blowing pass protection. Like previously mentioned.....Get Steve Smith back in the lineup and Foster will suceed. Seems as though Carolina always gets off to a slow start to the season though?! -- w/out researching, just seems that way
