Why do you play fantasy football? (1 Viewer)

Now simply because it has been habituated.  Previously it was to stay in touch with old friends but also competing with them for bragging rights.  The money is not even in the picture - on the few occasions I have won it all it is simply treated as found money.  Now there are many years I have thought of giving it up, but it has just become a habit so I continue.

  • Helps me stay in touch with middle/high school friends.
  • Data analysis is fun
  • Makes Sunday more interesting, Thursdays somewhat so when the games are well-played
  • Straight cash, homey. Over the last 15 years, my home leagues have become a secondary source of reliable income. :)
  • National competitions are humbling - FFPC is tough, but I learn a ton from the others so I can crush my home league buddies. ;)

Fun, love football, competition are why I like it so much but I tried it in the first place as a means to curb my gambling habit.

Like most others,  for the competition, the love of the game, and to make money.

FF and Poker are about my only hobbies, and I draw a lot of parallels between the two.  While I somewhat follow other sports, football is the only sport that a care about.  So the combination of FF being one of my only hobbies and not really getting into other sports as much is what steered me to dynasty leagues.

I almost exclusively play in dynasty leagues, and what I love the most about them is that they're a year-round activity.  Of course there are slow times during the year,  but I love knowing that at any point in time you can make a move or a pickup that could affect you for years to come; even on a random Wednesday in the middle of February.

The short answer is I'm a Browns fan.

The long answer is I'm a F'ng Browns fan thus I have no hope for an NFL championship so I make my own championship teams.

For the Fun.

For the competition.

To make new friends.

For the strategy and the prep work I put into draft day.

To gain a better knowledge of players.

And I enjoy winning money.

Mostly the reasons already given - competition, fun, money helps a little, it encourages me to keep up with the sport.

Honestly, if I didn't play ff I might stop watching pro sports entirely.  I'll pay attention to some of the playoffsd in other sports and occasionally check on my hometown hockey team (go wings!) But my interest in other pro sports is minimal.  I'll follow college football and basketball without fantasy but I'd probably eventually lose most of my interest in the NFL as my knowledge decreased.
