Why does EVERY site have Big Ben rated so low this week? (1 Viewer)

Assuming Big Ben is healthy............I'm not understanding why I can't find any projections around the web that give Big Ben a chance at cracking top 3-7 type numbers (as he seems to do every single week). I realize that Baltimore is in a "must win" game....at home...at night. But, against the pass they are ranked 17th in total yards and 22nd in yards given up per pass attempt. On top of that they just lost a starting CB last weekend who is out with an ACL. Pitt wont have much luck running the ball against the Balt. D so I'm guessing Ben ends up hucking it 35-40 times and puts up good fantasy numbers.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Can't speak for every site out there, but I have him at 12. Some "good" QB's have stellar matchups this week. That probably has more to do with why you're seeing Ben leap-frogged rather than as a mark against him. I think it should be a big fantasy week across the board with Ben posting numbers that would put him in the 6-7 range many weeks and still not getting in the top 10 for week 12.

1 Aaron Rodgers Packers at Lions

2 Tom Brady Patriots at Saints

3 Drew Brees Saints Patriots

4 Peyton Manning Colts at Texans

5 Philip Rivers Chargers Chiefs

6 Kurt Warner Cardinals at Titans

7 Brett Favre Vikings Bears

8 Carson Palmer Bengals Browns

9 Matt Ryan Falcons Buccaneers

10 Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks at Rams

11 Matt Schaub Texans Colts

12 Ben Roethlisberger* Steelers at Ravens

Probably because one good shot from Ray Lewis will send Big Ben to the sidelines for the game. So you may 1, 2, 3, quarters out of him. Risky.

Your #8 is my backup (Palmer), but I've ridden Big Ben all season long and it's tough to jump off now.

I'm not optimistic about his chances and it has nothing to do with the suddenly soft Raven D. It has more to do with the fact that he has never looked sharp in his games following a head injury. Each time IIRC, he has come out to throw for multiple INTs and very few TDs. More sacks and fumbles and just generally a 1/2 step slower to move or make decisions. Add to that, when Polomalu has been out, the pass D has been less-than-average and Ben may be forced to throw more which is never a good thing if you're already having a bad day. I remember a coulple years ago, I thought they would have won some of those games if Batch had played and likely made the playoffs. It may have been a mild concussion, or "concussion related issue," but whatever it was, it looked to me like Ben had some cobwebs on the sideline. I don't trust his head to be right.

Ben owner here and yes, I am benching him this week for Ryan home vs. Tampa. My own feeling is that both teams need the game but the OLine scares me on Pitt this week. I see the same weak secondary for Baltimore that others see but I just don't think that he is going to have the time to get the ball downfield and take advantage. That line has been very porous the last couple of weeks coupled with Ben's proclivity to hold the ball. Add to this equation him coming off a serious concussion last week and the Raven defense knowing this and I don't like his chances to finish the game in one piece. I hope the Steelers gameplan a short passing game for this one to counter the relentless fire blitzed that Baltimore will bring in this matchup so Ben can survive and see the next game.

:lmao: If your other options are not good, take the risk with Big Ben, but if your alternatives are remotely decent Ben rides pine. Besides, Baltimore/Pitt games have a history of being low scoring anyway, even a healthy Big Ben may only be leading them to a 20-13 win.

i agree. he's been underrated all year and it continues this week.

Its scary to think Ben has suffered so many concussions that we actually have enough medical history to establish a trend that he plays poorly coming off a concussion.

As per Rotoworld.....

"A league source tells NFL.com's Jason La Canfora that Ben Roethlisberger (head, questionable) is considering sitting out Week 12.

Despite practicing all week and experiencing no concussion-related symptoms, Big Ben reportedly informed coach Mike Tomlin that he might sit out "as a precaution." This explains Roethlisberger's "questionable" tag on the injury report. La Canfora says Big Ben will decide whether to face Baltimore on Saturday. We're speculating, but would expect him to start the key intradivision game. The Steelers' only other healthy QB is Dennis Dixon."

This can not be a good sign.....

Solid logic as to why Big Ben would play but nothing but that. He uses his opinion vs. "a source".La Cofora's (sp?) article also uses sound logic that Big Ben may not want to rush back only 1 week after his third (?) concussion.

It would not surprise me if Big Ben didn't play. As this article you links says, none of us are Ben or Tomlin so who really knows, certainly not this writer.

I find the bolded part very hard to believe. Everything Ben has said publicly is that he feels fine, has passed all examinations and he has practiced all week. My money is this story is being floated to give the Ravens something to think about.

Last season he suffered a concussion against Cleveland. Here are his stats in the game following (vs SD):17/26/181, 1 TD, 0 INT, 1 Sack, 98.4 rating Not great fantasy numbers but certainly not awful.

:goodposting: that shows he suffered a concussion.
Although Roethlisberger practiced Friday and reportedly passed all the necessary medical tests, he is now reportedly considering taking a week off because of concerns related to the concussion he suffered last week in Kansas City.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network cites an unnamed league source as saying that Roethlisberger told Steelers coach Mike Tomlin today that he might sit out Sunday's game against the Ravens as a precaution.

According to La Canfora, Roethlisberger told Tomlin he fears getting hit in the head again just a week after suffering a concussion.

NOTES -- While quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (concussion), like Kirschke, practiced yesterday with the first team and was listed as questionable for tomorrow, officially making each a 50-50 proposition, star safety Troy Polamalu (PCL) and left guard Chris Kemoeatu (MCL) did not practice again and were listed as out.

Ben is a very tough QB who will take a pounding in order to complete a big pass. But he is also a huge drama queen who loves to see himself as a wounded warrior overcoming injury to play in the big game. So he will hype the drama regarding his status as much as possible, then play and be fine on Sunday night. That being said, the porous Ravens pass D is shaping up. They held Manning to 300 yards (299 actually) with 2 INTs and only 1 TD, and only 3 points in the second half last week.

oopsI'm pretty surprised myself. I can't believe they didn't sign a veteran if they thought there was even a chance that he wouldn't play.

Ben Roethlisberger: Report: Won't Play Sunday - 11/28/2009 7:49:14 AM

Update:

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Roethlisberger (head) will not play on Sunday against Baltimore.

Recommendation:

He was apparently experiencing headaches while attempting to work out, prompting the Steelers to shut him down. Dennis Dixon will makes his first career start on Sunday night, while the Steelers may have to sign Tyler Palko from their practice squad for additional depth.
