Why is everybody panicking after 1 week? (1 Viewer)

Scrolling over quite a few threads and man, I can't understand why there are so many GMs in panic mode over their first and second round picks. After all, none of the big names fel to injury. It's just that they played like #### or their team git the hell stomped out of them.

Apart from AD, none of the other Top 10 RBs accumulated more than a 100 yards and those that did;

Bell, Mike 143 YDS

Jones, Julius 117 YDs

Rice, Ray 108 YDS

Jones, Thomas 107 YDS

Seriously, is anybody going to convince any of you that Julius and Thomas Jones are going to outperform Michael Turner, Chris Johnson or Jones-Drew all season long? Brandon Jacobs is never going to top more than 46 yds per game or that Westbrook finishes the season with less than 800 yards gained this season?

And move over Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Wes Welker because Devery Henderson, Patrick Crayton and Antwat Randle-El had a monster game in Week 1.

Who the hell is Aron Rodgers & Phillips Rivers? Make way for Byron Leftwich & Kyle Orton ya friggin' bums.

Yep, there will be some weeks where your studs perform like duds. It's part of the game.

It's fantasy football tradition!! You must panic! :lmao:

I generally don't make any moves for at least 2 weeks, unless there's a can't miss player out there or somebody gets hurt and is out for an extended time.

Um.. speaking for Jones Drew, because he's my RB1.. but he accumulated 123 yards on Sunday.

Welcome aboard...The first week panicking is a yearly tradition around these parts. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Thomas Jones out-produces Michael Turner. Lots of people have written him off in favor of Washington, but with a rookie QB the Jets are going to need a solid, proven pure runner like Jones, he's still has some gas in the tank.

The reason everyone panics after 1 week is because, at this point, 1 week is all we have to go on. It's small sample size theater!

Yup! That is why I drafted him....I expected him to have a good year with Favre there last year. This year the D will allow them to have the ball more, Sanchez looks decent and I think he has something left, he runs angry and i love that. I doubt he'll outperform Turner but he was a steal in round 6 of the draft IMO.

Quite a few? How many is that?I ask because I disagree. I think its only a few naive and/or insecure fantasy football participants. Its a problem with a forum like this. Those naive and insecure posters are given the same opportunity to spout off whatever they want, and frequently they do it while the majority of us just sit back and quietly shake our heads.

Let me make a slightly different observation. Received wisdom on the value of players forms and hardens over the off-season to the extent that there is an extremely strong consensus on the relative value of players by the time of kickoff. And then suddenly - whoa! It's turned on its head!

Now, many posters have said that it's only week 1 (and that therefore the received wisdom from before the season is basically correct, we just need to wait for it to be proved to be correct). That is probably true for most players, and the studs who under-performed in Week 1 will probably emerge over the season.

But for quite a few players, the received wisdom will prove to be absolutely wrong, and a new reality will have overtaken it. That's why week 1 is so interesting - because it is the first, faint whiff of that new reality.

That new reality may hold that LT2 is done, that Antonio Bryant was a one year wonder, that Michael Clayton is the new Antonio Bryant, that Zach Miller is the new Tony Gonzalez. Who knows? Let's watch and find out!
