Why is everyone HIGH on the Seahawks (1 Viewer)

Hasslebeck isn't too old. But a serious back injury is something you never fully recover from. He may be in great shape right now but one good hit to the back may knock him out for good.
100% false. He didn't have spinal fusion surgery, he had a percutaneous discectomy. That procedure is analogous to arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus in the knee.Once over the post-surgical recovery, he is at no more increased risk for re-injury than any other player.

Everyone's different, which is why blanket statements like, "his career is over" just don't fly. Concerns with Knapp's new offense, sure, but to predict (or worry) about injury to a player in the NFL is like worrying that it might rain if you go outside.

Here's a good radio interview for those that enjoy listening to Matt:

link doesnt work, but I would be interested in hearing it!

I'm not a believer in the Seahawks. Sure, Hasselbeck is a seasoned qb. Carlson had some gaudy numbers last season. A couple problems here. Hasselbeck isn't recovering from minor surgery. He's recovering from an injury that is extremely serious, delicate and uncommon in the NFL...back surgery. Keep a close eye on him in the pre-season. Carlson is no longer going to sneak up on opposing defenses (also, the Seahawks were down to their sixth and seventh wide outs making Carlson the only viable option by default). Their receivers have had chronic injury issues. Stating that their rbs are sub par might be kind. The last time Duckett was relevant was when he played along side Warrick Dunn. Julius Jones...let's just say he misses Barber and the Cowboys. As already stated, their offensive line hasn't been a dominant force since Hutchinson last played for them. Will the Seahawks be awful? No. They're linebackers are young and athletic (Curry was unbelievable at Wake). TJ should be able to rack up some respectable stats (no, not the Bungles of '06-'07...more like 85/1000, 7tds). They will be middle of the road (if Seneca has to play make that 5 or 6 wins for the year).

Again, 100% false. He had what has become a routine procedure for a very common injury. All back surgeries are not created equal. This was a simple discectomy. It was even the percutaneous variety so they didn't even open him up.He has nothing related to spinal instability or actual vertebral damage. He tore some cartilage that lives between the vertebrae, the surgeons excised the portion that was extruding into the nerve bed via a scope. It is a once and done injury similar to a fracture. If you are a young healthy male and if you break a leg, rehab it, and let it heal you are at no significant increased likelihood to refracture versus having never fractured it in the first place.I really don't have a horse in the Hasselbeck race, but facts and experience should be used in his injury evaluation.

are you referring to the same Julius Jones that posted a career-best 4.4 rush avg on a 4-12 team last season? the same guy that helped Seattle rank 19th in rushing offense? now they get a guru of an OC in G. Knapp, who's rushing offenses finish in the top 10, seemingly every year..Now I'm not saying JJ will be Clinton Portis v2.0, but I think he holds some good value as a fantasy RB this season...he could rush for about 1000-1100 yards and perhaps score upwards of 8 TDs

no one is mentioning that the Mora is now running the show. Sure he's been w/ the team but he not exactly a Holmgrum clone nor has he been schooled to run a Holmgrum-like offense. Last time he effectively ran a team, he had Vick running all over the place. How's he going to run this team? No one knows for sure which is why I'd tend to stay away from questionmarks. BTW .. how successful are 1st year Head Coaches anyway? I have no idea but Id think they'd tend to lose more than they'd win.

On offense, right now the biggest concern for the Seahawks(and they have many) is the health of Walter Jones. He has yet to practice this year and considering they are bringing in a new blocking scheme that could be a problem. I am sure he'll start the season but is he still the same player? It seems to me he is clearly on the decline and that makes an already shaky OL even shakier. Unger should help some but not enough.

Btw, to the back expert posting about Hasslebeck's injury all I have to ask is since when do teams fully disclose the extent of someone's injury? I'm sure you are right that the surgery Hasslebeck had is not a serious one but how do you know it addressed all the problems he has with his back?

Also, besides the back Hasslebeck has shown to be injury prone over the past few years. Given he'll have a shaky OL in front of him and the numerous injuries he has dealt with over the past few years (which have to take their collective toll) I don't think I am going out on a limb in saying that it is unlikely he'll make it through the year unscathed. It is more than likely he'll miss a few games.

BTW, I have followed the seahawks practices pretty closely the last few weeks and most reports so far say Hasslebeck looks shaky.

per rotoworld:

Marcus Trufant out indefinitely

Walter Jones out indefinitely

tough times don't last, tough people do

I thought Seattle's Defense looked stellar in the first preseason game. They had trouble stopping the run last year and looked much improved.

PS. Forsett hasn't even played professional football snaps long enough to have any gauge on him. There is no proof or reason for him to be that hyped up.
I haven't seen anyone hyping him. But granted it's been a nice summer and I haven't been glued to each and every little comment going around here or in the news in general.I know I am one guy from here who really likes what Forsett could possibly bring to the table. I have since he was a rookie. But that actualy has more to do with the fact that I know what JJ and TJ bring to the table.. and that aint so good.Still probably a better than Forsett. But we haven't seen Forsett play meh football yet like we have the other 2 guys. Personaly I don't think they would lose a whole lot giving him a chance to see what he can do.
We've seen Forsett play meh football, back in college. He might be a contributor on special teams, nothing more.

Seems where ever i turn the sports pundits (TSN, ESPN, Nfl Radio) are all high on this team winning the NFC West. What about this team is gives them this indication?

Matt Hasselback is about done

Their Oline is aged and worn down (IMO ever since they lost Hutchinson)

TJ Housh and the guy who gets injured every third play (i.e. Branch)

A running game that makes the oppositions 'D' tremble (Julius Jones and TJ Ducket), ewww look out.

Also, outside Housh and a couple IDP players is there anyone on this team worth drafting?
:lmao: Its an old brittle team with very little young talent. Should have gone straight into rebuild mode this year, instead they will battle the Rams to see who can win 4 games.

The weak division argument is interesting, as I see Seattle as a major culprit of why the NFC West is considered a weak divison.....

Poor Hasselback--wish he coulda moved on and went to a contender, or a team that can protect him. I don't think he lasts 3 games behind that poor OL w/no running game.

eta--good thing he gets 6 NFC West games, as I don't think the 49ers, Cards, or Rams could generate a consistent pass rush to save their collective lives :lmao:
