Why is the draft starting at 3pm? (1 Viewer)

Because despite cutting off a round, they'd still like it to drag on well in to the night on Day 1.

It starts at 3 because the NFL loves me and knows that I'll be at my son's First Holy Communion party until at least that time. :lmao:

I oughta get him right in time to see my Bears f' up another first round pick. :(

Since they knocked 5 minutes off the first round, and 3 off the second, the first day is going to move faster, so the start time doesn't really make a difference.

it always goes into prometime. if they start it in primetime, they'll be lucky to get in half a rounf on saturday.
1st round has been cut from 15 minutes to 10, potentially saving 2 hours 40 minutes.2nd round has been cut from 10 minutes to 7, potentially saving 1 hours 36 minutes.3rd round has been moved to Sunday, potentially saving 3 hours 44 minutes.Despite starting 3 hours later, day one could end 4+ hours earlier than last year.

Its all about ratings and $$.. some bean counter and Rating Analyist finally got to the NFL and informed them that the best time for ratings is in the mid afternoon. Some of the West Coast was missing the early part of the1st round since the thing started at 9 am over there.

I was so happy when word came out that they shortened the timer... but then they pushed it up by 3 hrs. The thing will still be on at mid-night for us East Coast guys.

Round 2 is 7 minuntes per pick I thought?
:lmao: From NFL press release:"Beginning with next year's draft, only Rounds 1 and 2 will take place on Saturday (April 26), the first day of the draft. Previously, the first three rounds of the draft were conducted on Saturday. The time allocated for each club to make its selection in Rounds 1 and 2 also has been changed.Instead of 15 minutes for each pick in Round 1, clubs will now be allowed 10 minutes. In Round 2, the selection time has been shortened to seven minutes from 10 minutes. The draft also will begin later on Saturday -- at 3:00 p.m rather than at noon.Round 3 will be moved to Sunday and remain at five minutes per selection. Rounds 3 through 7 will be conducted on Sunday, with each selection allocated at five minutes. The draft on Sunday now will begin at 10:00 a.m. rather than 11:00 a.m."We believe these changes will make for a more streamlined and efficient draft," said Commissioner Goodell.

Saturday is the perfect storm....

Nuggets playoff game, Av's playoff game and the NFL draft all at the same time and I have to go to a birthday party for my sister's kids at that exact moment.

Theoretically the first 2 rounds could last almost 9 hours.
Yea, I posted this exact comment when the new time was announced. I don't like the new time. Seems a 1pm start would be better. And if it ends near midnight, the teams aren't going to have much turnaround time when the important 3rd round starts on Sunday at 10am.

In the past, whomever was at the top of the 4th round got a slight advantage because they could sift thru anyone that had fallen or have more time to field trade offers from other teams that did the same and desperately wanted to move up to get their guy in the 4th.

Because the average Oakland fan is asleep when their team usually drafts each year.
Oakland drafts early in every draft lately.I don't think the Oakland fans are asleep (passed out maybe) But the later start time will make them choose between seeing the family on C.O.P.S and watching the draft
