Why is Thomas Davis ranked so low? (1 Viewer)

Anthony has him at 26, Jene at 35.

The last 2 years he finished 21st (SLB) and 6 (WLB). Why so low?

Is this related to Peppers possibly leaving?

Among all LBs in FBG scoring last season, Davis finished 16th. He was 43rd overall in 2007, but that's less relevant after the position switch.

My dynasty ranking for Davis is lower this season for a couple of reasons. First, I don't believe that his 92 solo tackle finish from last season is sustainable. I'd be reluctant to project him over 85 solos. He'll again be competing with one of the league's best MLBs, two solid tackling corners and a pretty good SS. For me, tackle numbers drive the rankings, and I think 82 solos is more likely than 90+ in either of the next two seasons as things currently stand. Peppers' status won't affect Davis much.

Next, I think, given their current situations, young guys like Justin Durant (talent, increased role), Keith Rivers (lack of LB competition) and Lawrence Timmons (flashes of talent, expected increase in role, higher big play upside) have better long-term upside. There's certainly an argument, however, to slot Davis above guys like Antonio Pierce or Bradie James or Ernie Sims or Chad Greenway, all of whom certainly have <85 solo downside. In that respect, I could have ranked Davis in the mid-low 20s and still stay true to my first concern.

I'll be updating these rankings soon (after the first few days of free agency), then tightening them up further as redraft rankings following the draft when I put a full set of 09 projections together. Davis may end up closer to where Tony has him in that set.

OK. I got my numbers from here. In the one league where I have him he was 16th.

We're discussing what to do about the player pages. There were enough requests recently to break out the LB position into both ILBs and OLBs, but it also affects how the stat "rankings" are processed. For subscribers, the MyFBG function is the best place to go for combined DL-LB-DB statistical rankings right now.The tackle-leaning nature of our default scoring amplifies concerns about Davis' tackle numbers. In leagues with a sack-to-tackle ratio of 3:1 or less, it's hard to see Davis as a top 20 player again unless you're sure he tops 85 solos and continues to contribute at least average coverage peripherals.
