Why New Owners ALWAYS Being Wanted? (1 Viewer)

Why, because, too many people are in too many leagues and or too many leagues have you keep EVERYONE or almost everyone. That's why I am extremely puzzled on why there are not more leagues where you only have 2-3-4-or whatever number of KEEPERS. This way if there is a weak team where the owner does not return, it should be a lot easier to find a replacement owner. Too often leagues fold because you can't find a sucker err another person to take over.

Also why are so many leagues looking for advance payment up front? Yes I understand the thought process of teams trading future draft picks for this year's players or picks but what if there are owners who hardly make ANY trades?

I just don't get it

I'm in 33 dyno leagues where we keep all players. I'm clearly addicted to FF. I work hard on my teams to be competitive but sustainable. For this reason, I don't wanna give up half my roster each year to start over. That's why I don't play redraft anymore.

Also ... there are MANY reasons why people walk away from teams ... not just because the team sucks. If multiple owners bail then a dispersal draft helps to even things out again.

But to each his own

lol 33 leagues? Either you have no wife and or no kids! That's impossible to stay on top of. Besides how do you route for a player when you have the other team's D going in another league and the opposing RB?

And a dispersal draft is supposed to make those crappy teams competitive?

33 leagues is a crazy amount lol

If you have multiple teams you "route" (Canadian pronunciation?) for the players you have the most shares in. I've found it helpful to ignore the players on other teams until the Sunday night game. While I'm in only 5 leagues, rooting interests can become schizophrenic even at that level.

A dispersal draft at least gives the incoming owner control over his preference of players, regardless of the quality of the remaining pool as a whole. Some owners like the challenge of starting with a crappy team (many times, these are also discounted or free the first year) and building it into a contender.

I commish a couple leagues and have always said "A league is only as fun as its owners". If you're an active owner in a dead league, you're probably in the wrong league.

I'll offer a different take on why it SEEMS so many leagues look for owners every year.

50 million people are involved in Fantasy Football to some degree. Sheer numbers alone

would make it logical for many leagues to lose owners from year to year. Just my 2cents.

And another perspective is I prefer to start fresh every year. Last year was great but isnt fantasy football about the unknown of the draft and who will be available when its my turn. ..or if im in an auction if i really want a guy im going to get him. I dont do IDP or dynasties but im really looking to get into a 100$/150$..redraft with ppr or no ppr..im in two locals just like to battle some formidable unknown foes

I am very interested in this topic as I just became commish of Home Team Fantasy Football. I also play in multiple dynasty leagues and there are always tons of openings. One reason I think is because of the other owners. Fantasy football is about community, talking trash and TRADES. That is why fantasy football started so that average people could own teams and make trades to build a team. I see so many owners get offended by a trade offer. Just push reject and offer a counter, don't get mad. Owners leave because they can't trade with other owners and get yelled at if they offer a trade so no one trades. It is simple, you need to be able to interact and fun talking trade with other owners.

My rule is find leagues with good owners who are in it for the love of fantasy football and enjoy discussions with the other owners. Home Team Fantasy Football (formerly Rockingrolloverleagues) has a group of owners who have teams in multiple leagues and have build a great community and history. I was really surprised. Some of the leagues have been going on since 2003 which is amazing since I participated in and then watched Phenoms go down in flames.

We have a few openings if interested:

12 team Keeper League with 6 Keepers a year. $100 a team.

In all my years of fantasy football, I basically get annoyed with lopsided trade offers and trades. I average less than one trade a league.

Sure that's one way to take it, but sometimes these are the owners I make the best deals with cause in many cases, they just don't have a clue. Personally my starting offers are usually close to fair value but not everyone does that which is another benefit of having tons of leagues, you don't care so much about the players themselves but the value they bring in the deal.

However, if you are a dynasty player and not looking to trade or making less than one trade a year, you might want to stick to redraft leagues.

My point is that trading IS fantasy football otherwise you might as well play daily fantasy. To get offended about a bad trade offer does no good. It means that you are worried that people think they can advantage of you because you don't know what they are doing...show them with your actions that you DO know what you doing instead.

I love to talk trade, if they propose a bad trade, i just push "reject offer" and than propose a counter that I want. It is about the negotiation. I don't want to bad mouth and rip into the other owner cuz all that does is stir bad feelings and then nobody trades and people leave the league leading to looking for new owners EVERY year. Just my opinion though.

To answer some questions above ...

I am divorced (maybe due to the FF addiction) and remarried (she is cool with it). We have 5 kids but only half the time ... plus I just finished my Masters Degree so I have new found time (hence the extra leagues this spring). I didn't have as many in previous years, but yes this is too many to manager and I will be cutting some after 2015.

As for "rooting" for players ... I now try to vary my team contents vs going all in on one player to avoid the major let downs of injuries, trades, or lost jobs (some examples include ... Cordarelle Patterson, Mckinnon, Tre Mason, D.Freeman, etc, etc).

As for offers ... I never get offended by bad ones but I have had some nasty reactions to some of my openers. To each his own. I like talking trades ... always. I like drafts and trades more than the games to be honest as those usually disappoint me.
