Why no love for Woodhead? (1 Viewer)

I had him last season and he was like the Omega flex. He behind Jamaal charles helped me win some serious cash. I got more RBs so now he is just a luxury. No one in my league wants anything to do with him though, I wouldn't be able to even give him away. Will Donald brown effect him that much?

It's not just Brown. As the season went on, Chargers skewed more run-heavy and Woodhead's numbers/involvement became much more volatile, even in PPR leagues... 49 receptions in the first half of the year, 27 in the second half...

They just brought in dammit donald and already have mathews and drafted another rb. Donald will likely take over the ronnie brown role but its still a crowded backfield. And like bloom said his usage decreased as the season went on which is concerning.

I think Brown is more likely to take carries from Woodhead than catches. Woodhead will still get 60+ catches, 800 yards+ combined, and 5-7 scores.

mccluster is more athletic I think than woodhead. Think he will be the news sproles-lite?
Mccluster actually isn't more athletic. In fact I'm not confident Sproles is more athletic than Woody. I'm beginning to think it's racism honestly lol, Woodhead is a physical freak for his frame and the kid just can't catch a break.I don't know how else to explain why he's consistently compared to other players the way he is. The dude even bulks up every year.

My bad, very good point. http://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?i=7261 http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=56345&draftyear=2008&genpos=RB

Woodhead beats sproles in all categories besides 3 cone and shuttle. woodheads 40 ranged between a 4.33 and a 4.38, and he wasn't even invited to the combine he had to show this off at pro day http://www.stormfront.org/forum/t562569/%C2'>

I thought about it and people question his age, but do change of pace backs have the same shelf life as rb? He has better measurements across the board on sproles and sproles isn't letting up

I've wound up with him in 2 of 3 redrafts so far. May see reduced rushing attempts with Donald addition, but I still think he'll finish top 25 PPR RB.

I would disagree with that.

In general I'd say a power back has a shorter shelf life than a speed/space back - but 30 is 30 and dynasty leaguers shy away from any RB approaching that cut off.

This may sound bad and is politically incorrect, but I can't get excited about aging white running backs.

Receiving back aging patterns are very similar to rushing back aging patterns.

Is Frank Reich going to use Woodhead like Whisenhunt did? As far as I can tell he's only worked with WRs and QBs

Woodhead was a pleasant RB2-level surprise last year for a good chunk of the season. He helped me make the playoffs in a league I ended up winning, but Woodhead didn't start for me again after 5 point weeks in 11 and 13. He had a nice week 14 (a bye he helped me get), but I still didn't trust him for 15/16 - the right call.

2013 was very likely his career year for FF production. And everyone knows it - I'd be surprised if you got a second round pick for him. Personally, I'd keep him and use him as a bye-week / emergency guy. Maybe he gets you 4 catches for 40 yards.

Rotoworld:

Chargers signed RB Danny Woodhead to a two-year contract extension through 2016.

Financial terms are not yet available, though Woodhead is currently scheduled to make $1.75 million this season. That figures to be bumped up. Heading into his age-29 campaign, Woodhead set new career highs with 76 catches and 106 carries in 2013. He'll remain the Bolts' primary passing-down back this season. Woodhead is an RB2/3 in PPR leagues.

This contract extension changes the outlook for Woodhead imo. He's still the 29 yo pass catching RB who is a tough dynasty sell. But now we know the Chargers are committed to him going forward. And he's not a typical old RB who's skills are close to diminishing. He's still that small, compact, fearless inside runner. He's not lost a step, and is durable as they come. Worth his price at his ADP in PPR leagues. Even in dynasty, I think he's undervalued.

Woodhead is 29 and his role decreased as the season went on - he's a tough dynasty sell.
True - he had 49 catches the first eight weeks and 27 the last eight weeks, but even if you split the difference and figure it evens out this year, he should still be good for 60+ catches. Game situations will still result in him having a few of those games with 7-9 catches (he had 5 games of 7+ catches last year). He's still a steal at his current ADP for PPR leagues.

60 receptions is exactly where I have him projected, so I agree. My post was in response to the OP's question as to why he isn't more valued in dynasty leagues though. The age issues is the biggest factor imo.

I have him in one league and wouldn't even bother shopping him around because I know no one would pay what he's really worth anyway.
