Why not fire Zorn now? (1 Viewer)

Sinn Fein

Footballguy
After watching some of last nights game, its clear he is done in Washington. he knows it, the players know it, Allen knows it, Snyder knows it - why not just do the humane thing and put him down?

Hell, I heard Jay Glazer on Fox say that Snyder was asking about Shanahan last off-season, while he was sitting with Zorn. Seems to be pretty classless to have all the public display of interviewing for a new coach while Zorn is still employed.

:hey:

I'm pretty sure he was trying to get fired last night after he pulled that abortion of a fake field goal.

Maybe credibility? The team (albeit through their ex-VP) came out and publicly stated that he wouldn't lose his job this season. If I were Snyder, I wouldn't ruin my credibility by firing him with only 2 games remaining in the season.

Having said that, he appears to have "earned" a firing. I can't believe he credited "great defense" to why that play blew up.

If I was the owner I would have fired him in the locker room at halftime...then I would have called Shanahan to see if he could make it there in time for the 4th quarter.

I was being nice to Zorn, he was a good man, in over his head, would have done well with the right management above him, blah, blah blah....

but now, with that joke of a fake FG play, Zorn has to go.

Just don't do it until after the season. The players have had a lot to chew on with Cerrato's resignation and Allen's hiring, don't make this week any worse by firing the head coach.

I'm almost wishing I had left the game on just to see this fake FG everyone keeps referring too.
It was fantastic.Picture about a half dozen Giants rushing the kicker with only the center left to block.I think Zorn was counting on the Giants laughing so hard at the formation that they couldn't possibly rush the kicker.

But then we wouldn't get that camera shot of him on the sideline after the second TD was scored where he looked like he was ready to cry. It is pretty sad. He knows its over and so do his players...

I think Zorn must have done something really bad to Snyder for Snyder to let Zorn dangle like this while he is making a public spectacle of interviewing candidates for the job.Just fire him and be done with the situation.

In a normal week, maybe, but the Skins have Dallas at home this coming week. As bad as the Skins looked and as good as the Cowboys looked this past weekend, the teams looked just as far apart just one month ago before the Week 11 game, where the Skins outplayed the Cowboys in Dallas but took a 7-6 loss.

Cowboys games are special to Redskins fans. The team owes it to the fans who've been showing up to watch this dreck to give them a chance at enjoying a victory this weekend. However slight that chance might be, sacking Zorn four or five days before the game certainly wouldn't help things.

Once you get past that, might as well let him hang around and finish the season with a nice trip to San Diego in the winter. You owe the guy that much.

Also, Snyder's trying to shake his image as a hothead who fires coaches at the drop of the hat, so I doubt he wants to add another name to that graphic they show of "Head Coaches in the Snyder Era" if he doesn't have to.

 I'm pretty sure he was trying to get fired last night after he pulled that abortion of a fake field goal.
I thought so a well.Unfortunately, I think Zorn is not a terrible HC, but has just had a lot of learning to do on the job. This year his team was besot by injuries. But he's done a good job with the lack of talent they have. Zorn's lack of success is really more of an indictment of Cerrato and Snyder than Zorn himself. This is the guy who wasn't even brought in to be the HC, but was brought in to be the OC before a HC was found.

The better question is "Why fire Jim Zorn now?". Not to be a jerk, but I don't see any advantage to the team gained by firing him now. It's not like they are going to make the playoffs and no one expects anything from them at this point anyway. Why pay someone a boat-load of cash to be a pseudo head coach for two games and possibly just confuse things even more than they already are? If they bring in a new "head coach", who's going to call plays? Same guy they already have calling plays. So what's the new guy going to do other than NOT call another "swinging gate" formation play (which I have a feeling won't get called again anyway ;) ).

Zorn is not a good head coach, but the players do seem to still be playing for him, which is about as much as could possibly be expected from the team in the current circumstances.

The guy I feel bad for is Campbell. I'm a Steeler fan, but I live in DC and have become a Campbell fan. You can say he sucks and I won't argue with you, but I will say that it is exceptionally hard to evaluate a guy in a chaotic situation like he's in. From what I've seen and heard he's a very hard worker, an excellent citizen, etc. Management has dumped all over him, he's taken a pounding all year, some of his team-mates are VERY me-first type players, and you NEVER hear a negative word from the guy. Last night for example he's getting blasted physically and blasted from the stands for an entire half. But in the second half in an obviously already lost game, instead of mailing it in, he's out there scrambling to make first downs.

And now he's in a "contract year" and his team is crumbling around him despite his best efforts every week. I know he's been in the league for a while and a guy will generally show what he's capable of by this point in his career, but I hope some team out there will give him one last chance to show something because he's really a guy you can root for.

Agree on Campbell never really being put in a position to succeed but for some reason I watched the entire game last night and Campbell just seemed to be going through the motions out there. Can't blame him but I didn't see much "best effort" out of him last night.

Missed last night's game, huh?The players know that Zorn will not be back next season, and have no incentive to play for him.

I like Zorn. I think he is in a little over his head, but probably deserves another year. I think the actively interviewing folks for the job is pretty classless by Snyder.

I watched most of last night's game. The guys were playing hard, just not playing well. The O-line they had out there was brutally bad, and not bad because they weren't playing, but bad because they are just bad. At least that was my impression.

Has Zorn confirmed that he called that play? I thought that Sherm Lewis was calling plays now.
In his post-game presser, he mentioned that he thought about changing the play after the Giants called timeout, but decided to stick with it because he thought it was "unique" enough. So, he made it sound as though it was his decision (and field goal or going for it decisions are usually head coach rather than OC anyway).
