Why not T Jones to Vikes? (1 Viewer)

Not sure if any salary implications or UFA/RFA rules apply but if not, why wouldn't the Vikings just sign Thomas Jones to replace Chester Tayor? Unless they're conviced Alvin Young is the guy, seems like they could get the same type of player, and a veteran who is a great locker room prescense, for less than Chester was asking. Seems like a perfect fit to me for a vetaran team looking to hold serve.

Westbrook makes more sense if you're looking at a FA back. Can be a tremendous 3rd down back. Really think they wouldn't miss a beat going from Taylor to him.

Westbrook isn't going to be the man anymore, but I think he's being sold short on the impact he can make as a 3rd down back and 5-10 carries/game.

-----------

That said, i think the best option is their #1 pick from last year, getting Percy more involved.

I think Westrbook's concussions are the scary part. One big bump on the head, and he's done. It's a whole new world in sports with the new awareness of the damage of concussions.

NFL Network last night mentioned KC, Det and some other surprise team(that slips my mind now but I was surprised) as the leader for Jones. It was none of the usual suspects.

As of about 24 hours ago, I had heard on ESPN that he was probably going to re-sign with the Jets. Since it hasn't happened yet, I wonder if that is still the case or if he's since decided to explore all opportunities.

And that was the last one also mentioned last night that I forgot.

He's a pounder, not the type that will swing out for dump passes. That's a lot of what Taylor did in Minny. TJ wouldn't be the right fit for that. Someone like Westbrook would be perfect if they are willing to take the risk...

There are several teams that need a pounder for a year or two, so unless he re-signs with the Jets, I could see some interest in him..

Memory fails, but didn't he have some comments on Favre upon his leaving N.Y.? Could make for a nice one day story when Favre announces he is back and he passes Jones in the Lockerroom.

I keep hearing that Westbrook's knee worries teams a lot more then his concussions and that many teams feel he can't play anywhere but a grass field.

chester not only was great for swing passes/screens he was also a great pass protector. both things AP needs to work on. vikes have a big hole to fill. i know this will sound crazy, but Pierre Thomas can be had for a 2nd rounder. he's a younger chester taylor

TJ is actually a solid blocker and has decent hands; he's a well-rounded RB. In his CHI days, he was used a good amount in the passing game. I think he'd be an ok fit with regard to his skill set in Minny. However, I don't think he wants only 5-7 touches per game (just my guess)... and thus, Minny won't be that attractive to him.

I think someone will throw pretty good money Jones' way. I was actually thinking a veteran backup like Fargas might make more sense but now there are rumnors he failed his physical.
