The current plan is to give Jermaine Phillips the first crack at the WLB job. I like Crowell, but this scheme is very favorable to the MLB. I'd have a very hard time projecting him over 80 solos, which puts him in a huge group of LB4 types. What is it that I'm missing here?1) He has averaged 80+ tackles over a full season the last 3 seasons he's played2) He's still pretty young3) He's going to play at WLB with Ruud in the middle (I would assume)how are these bad things? Is he still suffering from injury?
whoa...that'd have been good to know before I drafted him. time to get a trade going! Karlos Dansby, here I come! The current plan is to give Jermaine Phillips the first crack at the WLB job. Didn't that scheme used to get production out of the WSL? As in Derrick Brooks. Also Jene, have you heard anything further about Crowell's injury? I guess he missed a recent minicamp. I am debating whether or not to keep him.Thanks.The current plan is to give Jermaine Phillips the first crack at the WLB job. I like Crowell, but this scheme is very favorable to the MLB. Monte Kiffin and the Tampa-2 are out. Jim Bates and his distinctive brand of 4-3 is in. The 2009 Buc scheme is that of Zach Thomas in Miami (pre-Saban), Nick Barnett in Green Bay and D.J. Williams v2007 among many other monster performances. If you're interested in all the gory details, check out the Tampa-2 and 4-3 scheme threads in my sig.I've not heard anything about a new injury or a setback from his knee problems. They may just be bringing him along slowly in non-contact OTAs. It's hard to know what his value will be until we hear whether Jermaine Phillips successfully transitions to WLB and who earns a nickel role. I don't think there's a whole lot of upside for him, though. Maybe LB3 if things break well and he's fully healthy.Didn't that scheme used to get production out of the WSL? Not good for AngeloTampa Bay linebacker Angelo Crowell suffered an arm injury in Saturday night's 24-23 victory at Jacksonville and may be out for the year. Although head coach Raheem Morris did not address Crowell's injury in his post-game press conference, he acknowledged that Crowell's injury may be season-ending in his post-game radio interview.
From Rototimes. You're right, not looking good for Crowell, but maybe Posluszny gets a bump???August 23, 2009Angelo Crowell could miss the entire season after suffering an undisclosed arm injury in the Buccaneers' preseason game on Saturday night, according to the Pewter Report. Our View:Not good news at all. Crowell recorded 126 tackles for the Bills in 2007, but missed all of 2008 with a knee injury. Looks like he could be making it two straight years that he is unable to follow up on his huge season.

Ok, so what I SHOULD have asked was, how will this affect Ruud and Phillips?Bucs' LB Crowell out for season
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Buccaneers say linebacker Angelo Crowell will miss the season with a torn biceps muscle.
The seventh-year pro was hurt during Saturday night's preseason victory at Jacksonville. The former Buffalo defensive captain signed with the Bucs as a free agent after sitting out all of 2008 because of a knee injury.
Crowell was slowed much of training camp by a sore hamstring. Third-year pro Quincy Black becomes the likely starter at strongside linebacker.
No effect. Ruud was already the centerpiece of this defense and Crowell was unlikely to provide stiff competition for tackles. Since Crowell sat during most of OTAs and barely got on the field in camp, Phillips had cemented himself as the every-down WLB. Phillips major issue right now is whether he'll be moved back to safety if things don't work out while Jackson serves his suspension. That looks unlikely to happen now. It's pretty clearly Black/Ruud/Phillips right now and could very well stay that way for the long term.Ok, so what I SHOULD have asked was, how will this affect Ruud and Phillips?Bucs' LB Crowell out for season
