Why the owners will ultimately cave (1 Viewer)

The owners simply cannot afford to do away with games or cancel the season. Why?

Because of the networks. The networks would lose immense amounts of money with no football.

I know the owners get network money with or without the strike...

But it seems like suicide to piss off CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN.

Heck, I've already seen commercials on NBC advertising sunday night football for this fall.

How mad will they be if the owners take that away?

It's been said over and over, but these guys can't think they are immune. If they piss off fans AND their networks that provide them with the bulk of their money.....

I've said it for months and I'll continue to believe that this is all for show and posturing. When July gets here, the two sides will both buckle, get a deal, and move on with football.

There simply is too much to lose.

Over-simplistic view. Players have to cave. Most owners have >1 revenue stream, and when the #1 sport on TV is ready to go, the networks will fight for it just like they always do.

I agree there is too much to lose. And I believe the two sides will work it out.

But the NFL ain't scared of upsetting TV. Whenever football comes back, the NFL will be welcomed back with open arms. Fantastic ratings whenever it returns, it's like dating Jessica Biel, and she wrecks your car. You'll get over it.

Players are more desperate than the owners...owners will always be rich, and most of them got rich by excelling in situations exactly like this. Most players come from poor or middle class backgrounds and have subpar educations...this is their meal ticket and they know it.

Huge disadvantage for the players here.
