Every league im in refuses to adopt the 3rr drafting method. It drives me nuts cause they all admit its more fair, but then they vote against it. These are all redraft leagues with no keepers. Is this happening to anyone else?

You have to wonder if they agree that it is a fairer method if they just think from you pushing it that you understand it much better and since they haven't done it (yet), think you have some advantage with a new system?

Uncertainty / unfamiliarity breeds contempt. I don't want to say "fear", but if they aren't familiar with it or don't want to learn, they just say no.

Migrating to any other style of draft has similar issues (keeper, auction).

People tend not to trust new ideas. You'll need to do some convincing this season to prepare them for next season.

Baby steps. I got my league to switch to a double snake this year. Maybe next year or the year after we'll go to 3rr.

We did 3RR this year after I convinced my brother (co-commish) that it was a good idea. One problem is that your league appears to be a democracy. Ours is a dictatorship. We'll listen to ideas, but there is no such thing as a league vote.

I did my own #'s as well as sent those and Pasquino's article to all of my league-mates. I didn't push it or ask them to vote on it this year, but rather said it's something that I'd like to look at next season. I've already had a couple of people in the league approach me and say that they think it's a good idea. Like everything, people are resistant to change, but they'll be more receptive if they understand the change you're trying to implement. Make sure they have all of the information and make yourself available for any questions.

My goal is to get several "leaders" of our league on board with the change and we'll work on implementing it next season.

As a coach I heard about told his players:"This ain't no democracy...it's a dictatorship. I'm the ####, and you are the Taters. The sooner you learn that, the better off we'll all be."

Odd, Im in about 8 (live draft) leagues this year.

4 Banzai Methods.

3 3RRs.

1 auction.

And with an explanation of point/draft structures in year N.

I've never seen it not adopted in year N+1. (Some choose to go 3RR and some go Banzai)

As the point structures become proven and are then fully understood each time.

But without a hands on explanation and working experience, it can often be difficult, especially over the net, as...

you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink.

I think this is the key to success. I have lobbied any changes that are more than trivial details in August of one year with the intent of sowing the seeds for future years. People will be more likely to vote for changing the draft style for the next season than the current season.

And actually, thats very proper. Instead of springing something new on them and expecting them to accept a foreign way of doing things. But instead allowing them to digest and interpret the information for themselves. Hopefully coming to a realization. And you you call yourself a jerk.

I got my main work league of 11 years to switch this year to 3rd Round Flip.

When I first brought it up, most were hesitant and thought I was just trying to

complicate things. Got a few typical "it doesn't matter which slot you draft from,

it matters how you draft".

Then I showed them some of the stats from Jeff's article and a couple of the more

stat-headed owners thought it sounded interesting and "more fair", so that got the ball

rolling and, in the end, everyone got behind it with a "let's give this a shot".

I knew it was the right thing to do once we picked the draft order and the folks

with the top picks joked, "on second thought, can I vote against the 3RR?"
