Why would any male watch network TV? (1 Viewer)

So it's on. And it's Modern Family. Immediately, you know it's queercore when Nathan Lane is on.

But what was weird was the commercial for the demographic. It was a couples' therapy session for Old Navy jeans. The therapist (a woman) starts checking out the woman in a therapy session, and then they go out the door to presumably have a tryst.

Why do men watch this ####?

Is queercore and hardcore lesbianism funny these days? Is it reductive?

Yeah, I'm nuts. Thanks for your input.

All anyone is going to think of in your threads and posts anymore is your e drama.

It defines you now.

Funny isn't what I'd call it.

I don't think I've watched a network tv show since lost went off the air. Trying to think of one.

Edit: I guess the Simpsons a few times a year but don't really follow it. Why would anybody watch these when cable is 500 times better?

I kind of get what you're saying, but it was an attempt at humor, cstu. It was so out of place and wildly unfunny. Nobody laughed. It went over like a fart.

so you've moved on from whining that you thought todd and chad were talking about you when you walked up on them after recess yesterday to whining about a tv show you don't like. cool thread. and timely.

Is this the commercial you're talking about? They're not leaving to have a 'tryst', and she's remarking about how great the jeans look, not checking out the girl wearing them. 'Lesbianism' is a huge stretch here. It's a commercial for jeans, bro. They're excited about buying jeans, because that's what people in jeans commercials do.

Get ahold of yourself. For real.

Eh, perhaps. Was just drifting through. But being dragged into couples' therapy and a sale on line one?

Nah, bro. I'll pass.

Modern Family is the only major network show I watch - although it has greatly declined. Early on I liked all the plot lines including Cam and Mitchell. But now I think they try too hard to promote the gay angle. It was better when it was just another plot line in an episode instead of "look how gay we can be!".

Although I liked the Nathan Lane character in this last ep.

The question remains?

Do you guys watch network TV? Do you wince at its politics?

Fun for the gander.
Honestly ive nearly given up television completely
Other than sports, I mostly have, too. Sunny, Justified, and a few others I feel like I'm going through the motions on. I can't even log in to Sunny or Justified these days. Not good.

I'd like to start watching the Americans, as that was a very promising show IMO. Watched a show or two.

I was into Parks and Rec for a bit but lost interest in recent seasons. Watched The Office in its entirety but struggled through the later seasons. I've seen Modern Family from time to time but I think it's kind of cheesy (though that has nothing to do with <20% of the ensemble cast being gay).

Trying to think if there are any dramas I've watched recently. I want to say no. Closest thing may be Big Brother.

I do like Parks and Rec. I just have motivation issues to watch it. Show is damn funny.

Shark Tank is the only network show I watch.

**EDIT** -- I only watch a few shows in total, regardless of network.

I catch the reruns of Modern Family and Big Bang Theory. They make good background noise and there are occasional laughs.

I think you are reading too much into sitcom TV.

Some comedies are/were good: 30 Rock, Office, Parks/Rec. Honestly, Modern Family is pretty funny for a network show.

I'm a male watching network tv and have to wonder why any male would watch network tv?

The amount of stupid that is produced by your keyboard is off the charts. If I were you (and thank goodness I'm not) I'd consider going out and getting a new one.

I ended up watching a few seasons of Big Bang Theory because a girl I was seeing at the time loved it. I pretty much hate myself for it but Sheldon is a pretty funny character. It was difficult to take the Leonard character seriously after the actor who plays him was on Entourage.

That is harsh and completely uncalled for.

Also, hasn't cable (especially HBO) spearheaded the movement of putting an increased emphasis on homosexuality and other less than mainstream behaviors? It makes for great TV. I don't have the slightest issue if there are gay people on TV. If the artists writing and creating the shows want gay characters, cool. Just make the show good.

You don't wander through rooms and sit down ever? Jeez, man.

Have fun, LD. You're righteous!

True. Make them not tropes. I have no problem with gay men nor non-polictial lesbians.

Queer as Folk was a quality show about gay dudes. The L Word was OK, had some hot lesbos.

My apologies to the only thing I insulted, his keyboard.
Nice try.
Actually, it was effortless.

Rock appears to be determining just how far he can go prior to a banning and/or has decided he doesn't need his meds.
I was thinking the same thing.
I wish I had Skype, because Dr. Feelgood has me in titters. The worst Crue album, ever?

I'm not maniacal, just critiquing. C'mon. Too Fast For Love is the greatest album, Too Young To Fall In Love might be the greatest song (h/t to Leroy Hoard on that one.)

Modern Family?

I can think of a few reasons why a healthy male would want to watch that show.

And while not as good as it used to be, it's still pretty funny, too.

Yeah and the Normal Heart was good. There's lot of examples.

Non-political lesbians....has a good ring to it

I checked out 5 minutes of the new "Odd Couple". Brutal. Can't believe people still watch shows with laugh tracks.

Weirdly, I was at the show in New Haven, CT when Tommy Lee tried his bungee jumping act to the drum set or something and fell from the top of the stadium to the floor.

Faster #####cat opened. I loved that band. Yes, it really happened. Motley Crue saw a guy, and he was a guy, fall from the top of the stadium, and then had to announce the show was over.

Everybody was upset. Tommy Lee lived. Oh my God, I'm losing it. Fell from the top of the New Haven coliseum because they'd ####ed up the bungee cord. And lived.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
