Why would Joe Flacco's tremendous playoff performance not continue (1 Viewer)

I realize he lost a couple of weapons in Boldin and Pitta. But, I think it might be logical to attribute his playoff success to Jim Caldwell and if that's true why wouldn't he continue that success into the 2013 regular season?

He got hot during the playoffs. I will take his 5 year career as a reference point and not the 4 games he was hot for.

He is a middle of the road QB at best.

He was pretty good in the playoffs in 2011 as well (two TDs per game). With the same OC into 2012, he went back to being mediocre (until the playoffs in 2012).

Playing the Ravens will be somewhat simple this year.

DON'T BE BEAT DEEP BY TORREY SMITH!

Which means BAL will likely run the ball a lot and Flacco manages the game with shorter passes.

Which means Flacco is a mid range QB2 without a lot of upside.

Rice has single handily made that play action so effective its ridiculous. It works like 3 times more often than not. Now that Boldin is gone I'm not sure Torrey will be the recipient.

While I also expect Flacco and Baltimore to regress this year, I do also think that the loss of Boldin + Pitta will mean that some receiving target other than Smith will be fantasy relevant. I can't see it being Jacoby Jones. Dickson maybe. Clark less likely. Brown?

I'm not high on rookie WRs, so I would bet on Dickson to be the one. I think Jones/Clark/Brown will get a smattering of catches, but I think it is most likely that Dickson will get some shots over the middle and redzone love.

12/10/2013 - Ravens fire Cam Cameron and hire Jim Caldwell as OC

Flacco after:

12/16/13 254yds / 2 TDs

12/23/12 309yds / 2 TDs

12/30 (starters sat most of the game) 34 yds 0 TDs

1/6/13 282yds / 2 TDs

1/12/13 331yds/ 3 TDs

1/20/13 240 yds/ 3 TDs

2/3/13 287yds/ 3 TDs

30+ points tonight in several formats.
How is that even possible? In my 6pt passing TD league he got 22 pts.

Edit: Nvm, +0.1 per completion, -0.1 per incomplete

It was an impressive interception for a touchback followed by a fumble but not a real fumble - Flacco played great :bs:

Which was not surprising seiing as how BAL was playing catch-up for most of the 2nd half. In the same vein however, it was a bit surprising to see him up up that kind of stat line with BAL's lack of receiving depth/talent. I mean, Dallas Clark got 12 targets on the night (partially due to J.Jones's early exit), putting up a rather decent stat line in PPR all the while looking like a bumbling, stumbling mess of a TE. Flacco can't possibly lean on Clark this hard all season.

I'd like to see M. Brown develop.

They need something quick. Dickson IMO looks terrible and slow. Clark as bad as he was still a better option over Dickson. Rice 8 catches for not much yards. They really should have kept Boldin or gotten a better off season FA signing at WR, they didn't.

Should have been higher except his receivers cant catch the damn ball. Clark dropped the touchdown catch that hit him right on the hands, catch that and Flacco has another 4to 6 points depending on your scoring format. New Orleans has a guy that barely made the team (Tanner) that catches every thing thats thrown at him. Why cant the Ravens find someone like that?

Its not everyone elses fault, its everyone including Flacco - but excluding Rice cause hes a boss, a true gentleman and a scholar.

Yeah, his numbers should have been better last night. Clark clearly cost him a TD and Dickson dropped at least 3 passes. Still, he didnt play all that well IMO. He threw some mind boggling passes. The one across his body into double coverage that should have been picked come to mind. Also, his first TD pass was a horrible read. He had Clark wide open and uncovered in the back of the end zone but decided to throw to Leach who was covered well. Leach bailed him out by making the play.

Honestly I felt like Balt had a horrible game plane last night. When they were up and the game was close it seemed like they were intent on being in a rptrack meet with Den. They never committed to the run and kept throwing. With manning and the dpDen offense ocross the sidelines that was a stupid strategy.

Absolutely. It doesn't end there though.......Flacco was consistently late making his throws up the seam to TEs. That is why they kept getting popped the second they caught the ball. If Flacco throws those balls 1-2 seconds earlier, those are catches. But he doesn't make the throw early enough - because he isn't a great QB. He's a middle-of-the-road starter.

Flacco doesn't suck. He's also not elite. He has an elite arm, but lacks that command of the offense that Manning, Brees, Rogers etc possess. With good receivers who he's developed timing with, he can be a top 12 performer consistently.

He's got hot garbage left at WR. Torrey is not a complete WR yet. Then it's Stokley, Brown, Jones (maybe). Not good.

I agree Flacco is in trouble if they dont fix that receiving corp fast. How can that many players have the dropsy's ? I'd start by firing the receivers coach and bring in someone who will have those guys ready on game day. The Ravens better not fall behind by major points against a top flight defense.
