Why your favorite NFL team WON'T win the Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

So for those who aren't aware my favorite NFL team is the Chargers. Here's why they won't win it all this year:

1) Quentin Jammer, along with poor defensive backfield play in general. It seems like the Chargers give up more 3rd and longs than they should, and always at the worst possible time. Quentin "Toast" Jammer is the primary culprit more often than not, but this preseason the starting DBs have all been getting burned on a regular basis. With games against Manning, Brady and Favre I expect these guys to scored on more often than miss neighborhood matress on prom night after several shots of hooch.

2) Norv and Ted - not awe inspiring, balls to the wall, championship quality coaches.

3) The inside linebackers, while young and seemingly talented, are big question marks. For the A.J. haters this will be a very big opportunity, Cooper and Wilhelm are very much "his guys," to the extent A.J. happily let Donnie Edwards walk and Godfrey retire.

I see the Chargers having a tough time with the Broncos in the division, winning about 10 games, but making it to the AFC Championship game and then losing to Brady or Manning.

What about your teams?

Why the Colts won't win the Super Bowl:

1. Shaky special teams coverage

2. The D - but more the pass D than the run D this season. I actually think the run D will be better by nearly a full yard a carry this season - but they'll give up more passing plays this season.

3. Tony Ugoh. He's progressing, but he's a rookie and he'll make mistakes.

4. Too many good teams in the AFC. Who really know who's year it is this year (many say the Pats - we'll see).

Because they are the Broncos, not to mention the fact that it took them numerous times to win 1 Super Bowl

Alan Faneca and the Steelers O line have been suspect. Faneca fanned on his assignment on the Willie Parker Goaline fumble last week. His man was the cause of the fumble. Last night He was completely destroyed of the line a few times. Last year he was just about useless against Jaq, SD, and Balt twice. He has clearly fell off a notch and I'm quite pleased that the Steelers are planning to break ties after this year. I feel for you if your team overpays for him next year.

I'm more worried about the defense this year.

As long as Harrison stays healthy they will be just fine. Offenses have really struggled finding the endzone in preseason against the steelers.

NFC is an inferior conference, I don't see any squad winning the SB from there this year.

Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Texans, Titans, Chiefs & Raiders are out of contention.

That leaves the Ravens, who will lack the offense necessary to win it all. Also, the Bengals defense stinks, the Broncos have an inexperienced QB, and the Jags are talented, but too inconsistent.

That leaves the Steelers, Colts, Patriots and Chargers as the only legitimate contenders.

The Bucs won't win the Super Bowl this year, because they won't be able to beat the Patriots. The Bucs will be playing in the Super Bowl this year, they just won't win it.

The Chargers won't repeat their mistake from last January and pass when LaDainian Tomlinson can rip off 5+ yards at will against a banged-up Pats D (you just know the Pats will have some key injuries...it's in their blood).

Otherwise, I like the Pats chances this year.

Things that could stop the Patriots from winning it all:

1) Shaky kicking game: Pats had a 3-way competition at punter which resulted in 1 guy getting the job...then they cut that guy the next day and picked a different guy all together. Meanwhile, Gostowski has looked like he could be in for a sophomore slump after ending last season so strongly.

2) Pass protection: Brady was harried much of the pre-season. If things don't improve, he won't have time to take advantage of his new deep weapons at WRs. Which brings us to...

3) WR health: A lot has been made of Brady's new weapons, but Moss and Stallworth have both continued their injury patterns since being here. If they aren't healthy, the only real difference between last year's WR corps and this year's is Wes Welker (though I do like him...and agree with some shark's thinkings that he is the WR to get in NE).

4) DB health: It's the Pats...they end up with 859 DBs on IR at the end of every season. Chad Scott and Mike Richardson are already there. Who else will succumb? (Knock on wood)

5) AFC talent: This is really what it will probably come down to if the Patriots don't win it all. The overall talent difference between New England, San Diego and Indianapolis is negligible. All great teams. Plus Denver looks improved and has had the Patriots number for decades.

Ultimately, unless some combination of 1-4 derail them along the way, the only way the Pats don't win it all is if one of the other great teams just happens to have the better game "on any given Sunday" in January.

IF Seattle doesn't win it, it could boil down to losing Tubbs last night and not being able to stop the run. Should be powerful on offense and the secondary is much improved, not only with who was added but with who was given the boot. LBs are among the best in the league and the DEs will produce a lot of sacks this year I am predicting. Rookie Mebane may be able to step up and stop the bleeding but still leaves the team with depth problems at DL. That said, they have as good a shot in the NFC as anyone at getting there and we showed last year we CAN beat the Chargers if the now absent safeties don't let Vincent Jackson get behind them in deep cover protection.

While the Packers D isn't as atrocious as in years past, it's not going to carry the team. The running game doesn't look like it will take any pressure off of Favre, and that's not good. 9-7 would be a great year for them.

I guess we could just have a 4 team playoff instead of suffering through the entire NFL season..right :football:

KC Chiefs won't win because they have no consistency in the offence, bad O-Line, old corners, no consistent WR, the list can go on and on but I will still always bleed RED

Because the planets all align only so often, ie their D isn't about to pull off ANOTHER playoff miracle.

Last year I started a thread with that premise and stated that roughly 2/3's of the teams had no chance to win it all (Colts were on the list but the Bears were not). I took a little heat because I picked ten teams with a legitimate shot, so this year I pared it down. When you analyze the teams, everyone has a glaring weakness except for the four listed. The Colts, Chargers and Patriots are the class of the league, barring major injury, it will come down to them. The Steelers are the one team that could surprise if they put together a run in the playoffs. They are far better than they showed last season and a new HC may help them be overlooked....but they have the personnel that knows what it takes to win playoff football games.

Because I am approaching my 50th birthday and the Lions have played 1 game past the first round of the playoffs in my entire life.

Raiders.

I don't know where to begin. Lets just say they have zero chance of winning the Super Bowl this season, but they are making some progress. I would really like to see them get Russell signed.

My picks:

New England over New Orleans.

Rams will not win because our defense is a sieve.

Get past Little, Witherspoon, and Atogwe and you are to the house.

Offense may be good enough to make the playoffs but that is about it.

Kwame Harris will get called for holding on a potential game winning 98 yard Frank Gore run with 30 seconds left in the NFC wild card game.

The Panthers won't win the super bowl because of a shaky secondary that gives up the big play too easily, and an underachieving offense that will continue to run the ball for minimal to no gain until they are out of the game.

Harris isn't starting anymore. Staley's starting. This, of course, means that that Niners will win the Super Bowl.

As a Bears fan, I see 2 things getting in the way.

1) Rex blows it

2) Injuries to key players (just like last year when 2 pro bowl defenders went down :lmao: )

Because Jason Campbell is the quarterback

Because there is no legitimate 2nd WR on the team to help Moss

Because there is no pass rush

This is, without a doubt, the saddest thing I've read on these message boards in a very long time. And I read the stuff in the FFA every now and then.

Nagging injuries to Terrence Newman and lack of a pass rush will kill the Cowboys in the Conf Final against New Orleans

Browns - :meh:

Too many issues to list anything specific. Hopefully in 3 years - when Quinn/Thomas/STUD RB are coming into their prime are ready to go w/ Braylon and KWII. I'll just be happy if the D continues to improve and we can show some sort of OLine consistency.

Minnesota Vikings.

- Inexperienced QB.

- Stubborn head coach who is going to spend three times as much effort proving "he is right" as opposed to admitting when he is wrong and changing course. I'd still take Childress 100 times over before going back to Tice though, LOL.

- Bobby Wade as a WR1 :bag:

- Because we blew our best chances back in the 1970s and 1998

...not that anyone was thinking that my Vikings were even going to sniff the playoffs in 2007, I know. ;)
