Wicked (1 Viewer)

What the hell is wicked
It is a movie based on the Broadway musical WICKED. It released today! :)

yikes
No need for the yikes. It's probably gonna be awesome
It's still a musical, right?
Yes. I don't love musicals but this looks good to me

Side note - this is a word that never looks like it is spelled correctly to me. I want to say it like the past tense of a candle wick or the shirt “wicked” the sweat from my skin. I am an idiot in general.

Literally the only musical i've been to and it was amazing. Very well done

Wife and I have had season tickets to the theater for a couple of years now. We caught 'Wicked' several months ago. It was well done.
If you still have your Playbill around, check and see if Celia Hottenstein was your Glinda. She is my friend who toured the last year as Glinda and just went back to the cast on Broadway.

I think it's Peacock that has a whole bunch of behind the scenes, documentary stuff about the movie. We caught a little last night and it looks (visually) amazing.

My upstairs neighbor was in the original cast- ensemble guy- forever.

I still haven't seen the show, but might try to catch it with my 13yo daughter once the movie buzz dies down.

We've seen the theater production twice, most recently was about three years ago with our kids in Chicago. As awesome as that was, I'm skeptical about the movie version. I just don't see it translating very well on screen and have no inclination to go. I'm sure my wife and daughter will see it in the next week or so.

I was super hesitant on going but i've had enough friends who I trust who've seen advanced screenings say it is well done.

Wife and I saw the movie last night and we loved it. Going in, I had concerns about Ariana Grande playing Glinda, but I thought she was excellent. I'll spoiler this just in case, but there were a few people that I did not realize were going to appear in the movie, which was a welcome surprise:
Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond and also Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth making a surprise appearance in Oz.

The book was incredible. The show was horrid. Given the drama with the main actress in the movie I don't expect the movie to be any better than the show. One can hope, because the source material is so darn good.

they tried to make that scary book carrie into a musical and that was also totally terrible dont take that to the bank brochachos

98% on RT right now for what it’s worth. We will likely be seeing it next week sometime when it’s not quite so crowded.

Idk every review is glowing basically.

My wife is more stoked for this than any movie before I think. We've had tix for opening weekend ordered for a while now, something we've never done before.

I don't really dig musicals, but I will say Wicked was the first Broadway play I ever went to and it was awesome. I've seen a bunch more since then (it got us onboard with seeing plays) and I still think it's in the top 2 of any of seen. So I'm moderately excited, I guess.

Many years ago, I took my wife and daughter to the play when it came to Minneapolis.
For someone that doesn't really care for musicals, I thought the play was very well done.

I Took my wife to see the Movie tonight and thought it was also well done. The story is good and looking forward to the conclusion.

I know this is all fiction etc etc but if the store of Wizard of Oz was a dream for Dorothy how do these characters exist as a prequel?
Well there was also a sequel...

So my answer is i don't know

eta: even IMDb doesn't know ....

Dorothy, saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl, is somehow called back to Oz

 I was trying to edit my post and somehow deleted it lol I would love to know if it was ever discusssd.

I took my daughter to see it today. Not my cup of tea, but she enjoyed it immensely.
I can definitely see why it's so popular. The chicks who played the witches have fantastic voices .

I’ve seen the theater production twice. Really, really liked the story, but thought the songs weren’t very memorable. Sorta got turned off by the main actress for the movie when she got all in a huff because a fan modified the movie poster to mimic the musical poster. I’ll still probably catch it when it is streaming.

Seriously? The “wildest, most offensive thing“ you’ve seen? Get over yourself.

From the article:

"Director Jon M. Chu showed his support for Erivo in his Instagram Story, screenshotting her statement and describing the actress as his 'superhero.’"

No doubt! She’s my superhero! Is she a bad witch?

More from the article:

Update Oct. 28: Erivo reflected on the controversy with Entertainment Tonight:

"I'm passionate about it and I know the fans are passionate about it and I think for me it was just like a human moment of wanting to protect little Elphaba, and it was like a human moment," she said.

"I probably should have called my friends, but it's fine."

Wow that is really dumb. Wish I hadn't seen that right before I go see the movie. Now all I'm going to think about is whether she's invisible/erased in any scene where her eyes aren't easily visible. :lmao: what a weird statement.
