Wieters is a stiff, he's BJ Surhoff in 1989. He may get things going, but he's a long way from finding that ceiling, if and when it comes. You want to love him for that park, and Posey has a tougher park, tougher division, but he seems like more of a ballplayer to me. No life in Wieters bat when I watch him play, it looks like when he makes contact the ball will knock the bat backwards.

I agree with all of this at the moment...
Think he has the higher ceiling, although I like Posey as well. I think Wieters is going to be a .285-.300 hitter with 30 homers and 100 rbis a year. I think his second half will be telling.
...but also think that Wieters has this kind of upside. This is an average league I'm in and both these guys long-term (I can keep Posey for five years, Wieters for three) have a good projection for avg. I think Posey will be better in this area but there is no way Posey's upside is 30 HRs. 20-25 maybe. I can see Wieters really busting out either this year or next. Posey I think is gonna be the more consistent hitter over the next few years and maybe over his career but I think Wieters has the higher ceiling.

Full disclosure now...

I have Posey in a keeper salary cap league where you can keep players up to five years. His contract is $4, and will be next year as well. Salary goes up to $11 in year three, and then to $18 in year five. Wieters has a $6 contract that was signed in 2008, so he'd be $6 next year and $13 for the 5th year. So I would be able to keep Posey longer, which is definitely important to me. But I also have Posey in my dynasty league so I was thinking of getting Wieters just to hedge a bit.

The trade is really complex though involving 7 players and I'm an expansion team with a pretty bad roster at the moment. I need good contracts for next year but this trade is wanting me to give up Vlad at $14 (this year and next at that price) who is a pretty nice and cheap option for me as a keeper next year. If I did the trade it would be without him, so I wondered what folks thought of Posey v Wieters.

Who knows at this point. I'd go with Posey since he's a little cheaper and you can keep him longer.
