MIAMI -- Dolphins cornerback Will Allen has been released from jail on $1,000 bond for allegedly driving under the influence.
The 31-year-old football player faces misdemeanor charges.
Miami Beach police arrested Allen around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning as he reportedly tried to make his way westbound on the MacArthur Causeway. Police said an accident on the causeway forced the football player to sit idle in traffic at 5th and Alton. Allen reportedly became impatient, revved his engine then pulled up alongside an officer to complain.
"The officer repeatedly told him that he had to wait for traffic to clear. It was then an officer noticed the strong odor of alcohol coming from his car," said Juan Sanchez with Miami Beach Police.
Sanchez said Allen took a breathalyzer test and blew a .167, more than twice the legal limit. "We subsequently brought him back to the police department where he was arrested for a DUI," said Sanchez.
The car Allen was driving at the time, a Ferari, was impounded as police took him to the Miami-Dade County jail to wait for bond.
Allen has been with the Miami Dolphins for four seasons as their top cornerback. He sat out most of this season after injuring his his knee. He was expected to return this coming season. Local 10 contacted the Miami Dolphins for comment. They said they are aware of the arrest and said they are gathering more information before making any official comment.
