MIAMI -- Dolphins cornerback Will Allen has been released from jail on $1,000 bond for allegedly driving under the influence.

The 31-year-old football player faces misdemeanor charges.

Miami Beach police arrested Allen around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning as he reportedly tried to make his way westbound on the MacArthur Causeway. Police said an accident on the causeway forced the football player to sit idle in traffic at 5th and Alton. Allen reportedly became impatient, revved his engine then pulled up alongside an officer to complain.

"The officer repeatedly told him that he had to wait for traffic to clear. It was then an officer noticed the strong odor of alcohol coming from his car," said Juan Sanchez with Miami Beach Police.

Sanchez said Allen took a breathalyzer test and blew a .167, more than twice the legal limit. "We subsequently brought him back to the police department where he was arrested for a DUI," said Sanchez.

The car Allen was driving at the time, a Ferari, was impounded as police took him to the Miami-Dade County jail to wait for bond.

Allen has been with the Miami Dolphins for four seasons as their top cornerback. He sat out most of this season after injuring his his knee. He was expected to return this coming season. Local 10 contacted the Miami Dolphins for comment. They said they are aware of the arrest and said they are gathering more information before making any official comment.

I'm not promoting drinking and driving but if you know you are over or even close to the limit, for the love of god do not blow, Stick out your hands, go to jail, and the only words that you should say is that you want your lawyer.

Smith and Davis are the Dolphin's future at that position.

Allen has certainly lost a step or 3.

No doubt but he was going to be the Nickelback this year, I liked those possibilities just fine. He's better than a lot of other options for us right now. Wasn't an area I was hoping Miami would pour more into...DUI arrest, might get cut. Maybe not a huge loss but they did give him $10 million last year before the injury. Dansby and Boldin are on my wish list.

The LB position certainly needs a playmaker so Dansby would make me ecstatic. But we also have 2 safety positions occupied by "veterans" who did not pan out. I like Davis and Smith to be a future Surtain/Madison, but they need some playmakers and pressure in the front 7 to make their lives easier. On the offensive side of the ball I just want a WR that can catch.
