Will Artificial Intelligence take YOUR job? (1 Viewer)

From an article in the news today:

Associated Press to utilize Automated Insights robotic software to cover Minor League Baseball

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Bulls will soon have robotic software writing stories about them created by a company whose offices overlook the Bulls' home stadium. And every Minor League Baseball team will soon get coverage where ever they play.

Using Wordsmith robotic software, the Associated Press and Minor League Baseball are teaming up with Durham-based Automated Insights for game stories. The news service says it now can provide what it calls "automated game stories" about all games played by 142 teams across 13 different leagues.

The agreement builds on the AP's use of Automated Insights for business news coverage of earnings reports over the past two years. AP also at one time was an investor in the company Allen started.

And this deal could be a precursor to others.

From an article earlier this year:

Robots and AI would take over 50% of human jobs in next 30 years warns expert

Advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) could put almost half of the world's population out of jobs in the coming 30 years, a computer scientist has warned. Intelligent machines will take over jobs across various fields, including drivers and even sex workers, said computer science professor at Rice University, Texas, Moshe Vardi.

According to him, robots would replace human beings in various professions, drastically affecting the landscape of human productivity. He predicts that both men and women would be equally affected in the future.

Speaking at the annual meeting of the American Association for Advancement of Science, Vardi said, "We are approaching a time when machines will be able to outperform humans at almost any task. I believe that society needs to confront this question before it is upon us: if machines are capable of doing almost any work humans can do, what will humans do?" Financial Times reported.

Uh, something better than work?

AI would never be allowed to take over my job, because then things would actually get done. The government can't stand for that kind of ####!

Thankfully the computer generated stuff at my job does not work and we (not IT people) know more about the system and its problems than our IT people.  I'm not too worried.  Although I should probably just help create a system that does work.  Then I can just retire.

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.

Replace Agent Smith with a robot.

Anything that can be automated will be over time. Some careers will be outsourced to AI where that is optimal, and there will still be situations where human intelligence is optimal. It would still appear that those who should worry first are those with jobs consisting of simple, repetitive tasks, much as it has been for the last century.

Agreed on the bolded, but before today I wouldn't have considered writing an article about a unique baseball game as a simple, repetitive task.

I imagine the articles to be like the fantasy football game recaps that CBS Sports send out.

Or like the scripts on "reality shows" like Deadliest Catch, Street Outlaws, etc. Once you have a a formula, the shows write themselves.

I feel bad for those robots that have to cover minor league baseball.  It's unfair to put robots through that.  While we are at it can they get their own bathrooms?

Didn't they make these same predictions in the 1950's?  Maybe it was just Potsie though.

We've already proven that computers are more capable than humans are various complex games. It's only a matter of time before they're better at everything.

I doubt there's a robot alive that can handle their liquor while chatting up a 27 year old girl about making the world a better place than I can.

Community Affairs is people work.

When the robots start choosing which humans to kill and which to keep as human slaves you'll be in good shape.  Well played to put this on a message on a message board for posterity.

At some point my position will surely be replaced with a robot. That's a long, long, ways away though. They're comically behind the times at my place. I'm safe.
