Will Brooks be benched if Oakland starts slow? (1 Viewer)

Looks like Oakland will be dogs in at least 7 of their first 10 games. Will this force a Walter appearance...no matter what kind of stats Brooks has put up? I have a hard time seeing them even at 500 after 10 games

Any thoughts? I know some project players to miss games because of injury. Is this a situation where you project a player to miss games because of a teams schedule?

It probably depends upon how much Brooks' play has contributed to their losses.

I have Walter on my dynasty roster and I'm still not convinced that the recent enthusiasm for him to start is anything more than preseason hype. He's pretty raw.

I also think Walter will get his shot. Not because he's just sooo talented they need to get him on the field, but he's certainly an unknown quantity that they need to asess, and when Oakland falls out of it, which is pretty much a forgone conclusion, there won't be any reason to NOT give him a look.

Week 1: SDWeek 2: @ BALWeek 3: BYEWeek 4: CLEWeek 5: @ SFWeek 6: @ DENWeek 7: ARIWeek 8: PITTWeek 9: @ SEAWeek 10: DENWeek 11 @ KCI think Brooks will be lucky to even make it to Week 11. I could easily see them only winning 1 or 2 of their first 10 games. The only question remains, when does Art Shell decide that he needs to develope Walters. It's not a question of "if", it's a question of "when".

What makes me wonder about this is that Shell was the coach who brought Brooks in; he didn't inherit him. I have to wonder what the vets on this team will think and how they'll respond to a young, raw QB who is going to be making mistakes while learning on the job. Randy Moss, for example won't be pleased.

According to Raiders boards, Walter has a dead arm and has missed practice time. Granted, Brooks is Brooks, but a dead arm and questionable NFL talent doesn't really excite me. We'll see...

The term used was "tired" & that's a more apt description, IMO. It's not abnormal for a QB to get a tired arm in training camp. BTW, referring to what the previous poster said (redman), Moss has insinuated he much prefers Walter (no link...I heard the annoucers talking about it during one of their preseason games).

I honestly think they feel Walter is there man.

His arm mos def isn't dead.

He's also had a bomb touchdown in this years preseason. Your boy moss is lobbying big time for him.If they struggle the first couple of weeks Walters will be the guy.

Since the Raiders passed on Leinart and Cutler, I have to believe they think Walter is a solid young prospect. If the team comes out of the gate slow, Walter will get a start by week 10. The question then will be, how long does he hold the starting job?
