Will Chris Chambers continue this pace? (1 Viewer)

Chambers is averaging 100.7 yds per game. His previous career high was 69.9 yds per game. Is he in the midst of a career year or are we witnessing a mirage? I sold low on him last season in dynasty (well, ended up with Bowe so it's not too bad), but his hot start to the season has got me questioning that move. I don't have the stats, but is his catch % up this season also?

I don't have his catch% numbers, but he's being targeted a ridiculous amount. Add that to Trent Green (even as mediocre as he is) being Chambers' first "real" QB in recent memory and he had the makings of a good value play. I didn't expect the numbers he's produced, so far, but I see no reason why he won't continue at, or near, this pace. If the running game can get on track, it'll only open more holes for Chambers and he'll be good for at least a couple bombs or jump-balls in the endzone over the course of the season.

Plus, if you're into the whole odd/even year trend spotting thing, this was supposed to be a good year for Chambers.

Chambers was the second most targeted receiver in the NFL coming into week 3 with 27 targets. Chambers has always been heavily targeted. His problem has been dropping passes. This year, he seems to be catching passes which is nice to see. :D

I hate to be this guy....but Chambers is ON in odd years.

'02- 52 for 734 w/ 3TD's

'03- 64 for 963 w/ 11TD's

'04- 69 for 898 w/ 7TD's

'05- 82 for 1118 w/ 11TD's

'06- 59 for 677 w/ 4TD's

It's an odd year, GO CHAMBERS@#!

YUCK! YOu traded Chambers for Bowe? When did you sell low? Beginning of season? Chambers is very high right now, and he has not scored a single TD. When he scores and he will, he will be putting up WR 1 numbers. I own R. Brown and Chambers so I watch a good bit of Miami games, and Chambers looks great, and R Brown may get the carries to be successful going forward. This offense may be able to put up numbers. Their playoff schedule blows though!

He traded him LAST SEASON in a dynasty. Can you read?

Yep see it now. Sorry !

Decent QB, RB and the run game are coming around, Booker = enough on the other side to take some attention, average D giving up points, catching the ball, odd year mojo. It's adding up for Chambers and rewarding the owners willing to give him another shot in redrafts around R6. :D

Chambers is a GREAT WR3, and when the scores happen (albeit occasionally IMO) he's going to put up solid WR2 #s. IMO, one of the ideal WR3s if your 1 (god forbid) or 2 go down and you have a decent WR4 waiting for PT.

team on the rise, vet qb, coach with a clue. I knew it all along. owners in my keeper league thought I was nuts holding him. I took him in my redraft league as well. I am her to say to everyone - I told you so.

His catch rate this year is about 54%, which compares to a career average of like 48%. That might be real improvement, or it might not. There isn't much difference between the two statistically on a small sample size (i.e. this year's data is insufficent to say for sure). What is certain is that he is way below average in terms of catch rate for a primary wideout.

Again- check out the completion rates of the QBs he's had. Chambers isnt the most sure handed WR in the league, but when the ball bounces to you or flies into the stands it still counts as a target.

:)
Eric Moulds used to be ON in even years.

No question. But if that were the whole problem, I would expect his catch rate to be greatly improved this season. So far, it is only modestly improved.

Out of nowhere...?

In 2 of the past 3 seasons Chambers has scored 11 TD's.

His catch percentage is still about in line with his career average. The reason it looks as though he's doing better than last season is because A) Chambers of '06 had a TERRIBLE catch % last season-even by his standards. Merely reverting back to his average was going to give him better numbers and B) he's being targeted A LOT.

I see no reason his catch percentage will significantly change from what it's been thus far, nor do I see any reason he'll stop getting the ball thrown his way. Top 20 looks to be his floor.

That wouldn't explain why the other receiving options on his team have always had MUCH higher catch percentages. Chamers just doesn't have great hands and there's no way his past issues can all be blamed on his array of qb's.

Green's a veteran QB and know how to hunt down a receiver. Sup' Tony G?
Agreed, though I think Kennison is a better example. Kennison was a very mediocre WR(certainly worse than Chambers) before his arrival in KC and for whatever reason Green ALWAYS looked to Kennison before the WR across from him. You can joke about how bad those WR's across from Kennison were but Kennison wasn't much of a WR himself until he was Green's favorite. Having watched Green for a long time now I wouldn't sleep on Chambers if he's Green's new favorite WR.
