Will Christine Michael get carries this season? (1 Viewer)

I am someone who does not doubt Christine Michael's talent and I think could explode if give carries in the Seattle Offense. My question is though, does Michael get some carries in 2014? Or is this still a Marshawn Lynch exclusive Running Game?

Turbin admittedly looks pretty good too, so it's a crowded backfield.

If Christine Michael can get around 120 carries, he might make a decent flex-play. If he gets 8 carries against a poor rushing defense, would it surprise you if he busted a few big runs? Maybe scored on a long touchdown in garbage time?

He's better than you think. He's not on Michael's level, but he sure isn't the scrub you make him out to be.
I'm not so sure about that. I think a healthy Spencer Ware might even be a better back than Turbin.

Turbin isn't very good. He can't make anyone miss. He doesn't even run with much power.

If not for his blocking and his catching, his roster spot might be in jeopardy. It still might be next year.

IOW, if not for being good in two of the three key areas Carroll wants him to be good in, his roster spot would be in trouble?

Nobody will confuse Turbin for Lynch and Michael would likely be the #1 if Lynch went out, but Turbin will keep his role for a while.

I think Michael gets playing time this year and is certainly worth a flier in redraft.

In my humble opinion, and contrary to what I would like to see, I don't think Michael sees any significant amount of touches in 2014 unless Lynch gets injured or suspended, with the later being more likely than the former. If Lynch does go down or get suspended I believe Michael will be his replacement while Turbin retains the role he currently has.

Agreed. I believe Seatlle sees Michael as the Lynch replacement and that Michael will not see significant action while Lynch is healthy/available.

You watch him his rookie year? I know you watched this preseason pretty close for Michael, but Turbin had a issues with injuries then.

The risk of suspension seemed pretty high IIRC. So that would be some opportunity at least, where one could potentially sell him again, or he might see a value spike. He retains some pretty good value anyways due to the potential.

The salary cap numbers on Lynch were high enough, and with new contracts becoming due, that I think the starting job is up for grabs in 2015 with Lynch being a free agent.

I am less sure of that now that Seattle won the Super Bowl? But that is kind of how I projected him, to get more action than he did as a rookie, then get to start 2-6 games in 2014, then be competing for the starting job in 2015 with Lynch out of the picture.

This is why I valued Michael less than Zac Stacy who I had projected to get significant action in 2013 or 2014 with a risk of falling off/being replaced later on. I do think Michael is more athletic, but the players in Stacy's way were much less daunting then Michael trying to beat out a established foundation RB like Lynch quickly.

:goodposting: Sounds like a man with a plan. I like the idea of selling when his value spikes too.

I downgraded him slightly as I expected him to do more as a rookie than he did. Especially with Harvin out much of the season, I expected Michael to be used as a COP a bit more than he was. I do think Lynch may miss some games in 2014 though. So should see more of Michael than last season.

With the Seahawks winning the Superbowl now I could see the possibility of wanting to keep Lynch into 2015. Is the other minor concern about Michael long term.

ETA - Turbin is relevant. He could continue to keep Michael off the field on 3rd downs and certain packages, while Lynch keeps him out of others. Then with a healthy Percy Harvin as well? That is a lot of good players to earn playing time over. If Lynch beats the suspension? I don't know if Michael can get on the field for certain in 2014. Although it did sound like the suspension may have been deferred to 2014 off-season.

I have heard there may be changes to the Seahawks offensive line in free agency/the draft. So if they draft more quick outside linemen or other changes in personnel, that could indicate a larger role planned for Michael in the near future. If they draft linemen for the power running game, that might suggest they are sticking more with Lynch or similar player.

Changes to the offensive line may be to facilitate Wilson opening up the passing game as well, anyhow something I want to learn more about in regards to Michael.
