Will Lelie be traded this week? (1 Viewer)

While the Broncos spend the next three days working to finalize contracts with all seven of their draft picks, this week is also crucial to completing a trade of disgruntled receiver Ashley Lelie.

Denver, which opens training camp practices Friday morning after Thursday's reporting date, is all but assured of starting camp without Lelie. He has stayed away from team functions this offseason. If the team deals Lelie, it could happen this week when his value may be the highest.

link.

Article lists these teams: The teams Denver has talked to are believed to include Chicago, Baltimore, San Francisco, Philadelphia and New England.

no mention of TEN, cept here:

There has been some speculation a Brown-for-Lelie swap could develop, but the Titans are strong at receiver.

Strong at receiver isn't all that accurate IMHO. They still lack a true no. 1 WR, which is of course what Lelie wants to be, so long as he doesn't have to work for it. He would be an automatic WR2 with the possibility of being a WR1 in two years in Chicago. San Fran he could step in and battle for the 1 job, but then again he would have to "fight" for it, something he obviously thinks is beneath him. I think that he could probably reduce Clayton to a WR3 for a year. Philly he would be an automatic WR2 and a possible WR1 over Brown. At the least it would be a 1a and 1b situation there. New England I think he would just be lost in the shuffle, and it would likely just piss off Branch if they gave him money but denied it to him.

Anyoone see this happening this week, or at all?

It's hard to see what the Broncos have to gain by keeping him, and the article suggests that it has been fairly amicable to this point, with the GM trying to get something done that would please everyone.

I don't think the Broncos will trade him for a bag of peanuts.

If they get a good enough offer, he's gone.

If not.

No substance but a rumor thats been floating around is that an offer has been made that would swap Eric Johnson and Ashley Lelie. May just be floating around message boards but certainly makes the most sense of all possible deals.

I was wondering what would become of him after VD got drafted. That would make a lot of sense. Another trade that would make sense is Lelie to Chicago for Thomas Jones. I think Jones could be a monster in Denver's system, and for a WR that doesn't like competition, there's no better place to be than Chicago.

A swap of Johnson for Lelie does make some sense, but this would not go down before VD signed and arrived for camp. Also, my guess is that SF will want to run a few 2 TE sets given the QB situation, and Johnson when healthy is a very good receiver. Lelie may help, but his demands may not allow it to work - or if Denver wants a pick in return. As for a TJ swap for Lelie, I rarely say never - but this time it's close. TJ has 2 years left on his deal and the cost is minimal. He is coming off two very good years. Lelie is in the last year of his contract and has never shown the ability to be anything more then a #2 WR. Unless Denver adds something to this deal, I do not see how it makes sense to Chicago.

Seeing as how we currently don't have a WR2 and just signed Adrian Peterson again, I could see it working. Lelie is a legitimate deep threat which the Bears don't currently have, and Jones has requested a trade. Chicago would likely need to get a back in return, like Tatum Bell, or get one through FA.

Zero chance he comes to New England. He's the anti-Patriot, and he's looking for big $ that he hasn't particularly earned...just not going to happen.

SF would also surprise me - part of the reason they traded Brandon Lloyd was because his contract was going to be up and they didn't want to pony up all that $. Doesn't seem to make much sense they'd give something up to pay Lelie.

I think Eagles remains a definate possibility.

The eagles don't want this bum. We already have his older twin in Todd Stinkston. They run the same routes. fly's, outs, comebacks or digs and deep skinny posts. They don't have the body or heart ot go over the middle and get the ball. Unless the eagles want a younger and faster Pinkston, which I doubt, then I can't see them making this trade.Especially with whatever they would have to give up for him, they probably could have had Javon Walker instead before the draft.

According to some internet rumors, his agent was on a Denver radio station saying that a deal would be finalized today. People have confirmed hearing this, but no news as to what the situation is.

How about instead the 49ers trade Eric Johnson to the Bears for Thomas Jones and Lelie can rot.

Broncos | Shanahan discusses Lelie situation

Published Thu Jul 27 10:19:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan addressed WR Ashley Lelie's situation on the eve of training camp Thursday, July 27. "I'm just going to wait and see if he reports to camp. And if he doesn't report I'm just going to treat him like he sprained his ankle. I'm not going to worry about somebody who's not at our camp. He's got a contract and he's obligated to be here. We're holding all the cards, obviously some healthy fines. I talk to him on the phone a couple days ago and I'm not sure what direction he's going." When asked about trade interest in Lelie, Shanahan responded: "I really don't know how much interest there has been. Obviously there's interest anytime there's a starter on your team. A guy like Ashley who led the league in yards per catch last year there's always some interest, but not a big enough interest to have a fair trade. What I mean is maybe a draft choice or a guy we consider a comparable talent."
